I won a ribbon!

I was stunned that I won a ribbon for this little quilt. I woke up at 5 last Saturday. We were taking in quilts for the show for this weekend and I knew I was going to be stressed and I fell awake waaaaay too early.

It's not like me to start sewing that early. I've stayed up that late sewing, but I am NOT a morning person.

Anyway, for some reason, this quilt was calling me. I started it a year ago and had yet to sew the binding on. So I got it out and finished it.

We took in quilts from 9 till 3 and had 169 quilts. I entered all the information as we went along. Got behind because people WOULD not quit talking to me :-), and ended up lugging 35 quilts home with me because I couldn't remove the paperwork from the quilt. Got done entering all that information into Access on Saturday night.

I spent all day Sunday ( my birthday!) merging the information into a Word document, and cutting and pasting it into a Publisher document because that's what the printer people insist on.

Had it to the printers by noon on Monday (that was the stress part). They finished the booklet at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon.

Judging was on Thursday afternoon and Friday. I got to sit in and scribe for the judge for awhile. Most interesting and informative.

We set up for the quilt show all day Friday - one of my favorite days of the year. I get to handle every quilt because I do the hang tags and insist on placing them myself.

Our show started at 9 this morning and I was at the auditorium at 7. I finally left at 4. I found the show chair and said, "I'm tired and going home. I know everyone else is tired too, but my give-a-damner is broke, so I'm leaving."

The show also runs tomorrow from 1 - 4, but there are plenty of people to help, so I won't be going in.

We had a dozen vendors and I did my part to make sure they come back. Bought a couple of kits, some fabric from a woman who owns Nana's Pretties. She travels the quilt show circuit - she's from Oregon. We kept asking her via email when she said she'd like to come - you do know we are in Pittsburg KANSAS, right? People get confused. I bought one of those magnetic pincushions that somehow straightens all your pins so they lay across the little ditch and are easy to pick up. Bought a bunch of hand dyed fabric. Couple of books.

Came home, ate, and slept for 3 hours. Waiting for my pills to kick in so I can go back to sleep and I am going to play all day tomorrow.

Anyway, if you want to see my quilts and a couple others from the show, here's the link

They are in the Quilt Show folder.

Wow Cindy, well done. Such a cute little quilt, beautifully made and so unusual. Loved the colours in it. You deserved the ribbon. I liked your favourites too. I liked your Dear Jane blocks too. Mine are still in the book waiting to be done. Have the pc software but it's on the list of 'to do' projects. You've inspired me to bring it to the top of that list. :)) Elly

Love the miniatures and the way you displayed them. Your show is fortunate to have the window display area. Miniature quilts often get lost when hung with larger quilts.

Thank you, Jeanne. It is 7 1/2" X 7 1/2"

A friend had a workshop on "art quilts". I was hesitant to take the class because that is a classification that doesn't really trip my trigger. She had made this pattern on EQ5. It was copied from an old wool quilt that she had a picture of. She also had this gorgeous Cherrycreek fabric. It's hand dyed and looks like suede. I talked her out of the pattern and the fabric.

The original pattern was 12X12" IIRC, but I didn't have a piece of green long enough for where I wanted to put it, so I shrunk the pattern down 25%, I think.

She also entered her quilt. It looks just like mine, only bigger and she tied hers with tiny little black floss knots. It was adorable. They hung close to each other. It was neat.

Hahahhahahah! All my quilts start out really small, Jeanne. No big, honkin, bed quilts in my head hollerin to get out!

Thanks for your nice comments. Cindy

My "favorite" and "Another Favorite" were both done by the same woman. My favorite one got a 3rd and the other favorite got a 1st. They may have been in the same catagory.

A few of us who are just silly for applique decided to start a Society in her name. We don't know her but we worship her. Someone else said she had decided that if you steal a quilt that you will adore and cherish that God will forgive you.

If that little applique quilt that was my favorite goes missing for ANY reason, girls, I'm goin to jail because I told everyone that I called it.

Elly, I waited around for 3 years after I bought the book and the software and they didn't manage to make themselves in all that time.

I think, since I have discovered hand-piecing- that I am going back and redoing some a couple of them.

They're addicting little suckers.

Susan, the beautiful display window was upstairs in the auditorium. We did that window at the first of the month to advertise for the quilt show. None of those quilts were entered into the show. There's a couple of mine that I may enter next year, now that I'm over the "hump".

We had a big discussion with the judge about the definition of "miniature versus small". She said if it was a shrunk down version of a large quilt, it's a miniature. I said if you go by strict definition, miniature was

12:1, just like doll house miniatures. But I've seen quilts as small as 3"X5" with 1/2" blocks. That would be a miniature to me. Maybe it's a "tiny" quilt. IN our category list an entry is to be considered a miniature if it is 24" or less on a side, 4" block maximum.

Congratulations. Great little quilt.

Understand about the stress.... one reason our local show requires entry forms with a pic of the quilt, even unfinished, but in progress, due more than a month before the show. Also lets the layout person figure out which quilt will hang where. Easier to adjust for no-show entries that way. (of course we usually have well over 300 quilts to display, too.)

Looks like a great show.

And my first one is just less than a quarter quilted. I've started a second one and need to get back to it.
