I won a Prize!

I have just got back from the NEC sewing for Pleasure Show where I was a finalist for the eco styling, and I was awarded 2nd prise! Yippee.

My niece modelled the outfit and had a wonderful time she was of course the star of the show being the only child and nothing seemed to faze her.

I had a great weekend the show was very interesting lots of useful stands with interesting things. I purchased 2 bobbin boxes so I can get rid of the ice cream tub I usually chuck bobbins in and I can now see what I have , marvellous. Also some cones of fuchsia pink cotton thread and a great gadget for winding bobbins which works on a couple of batteries.

All in all a great time very inspiring.

Thank you. I'm so chuffed I'm telling anyone who stops long enough to say bonjour, the competetion was fierce. Very very good work and of course I could see every fault from a mile away on my entry.

Much more interesting than I thought, must go tidy up the sewing area I'm raring to go with new ideas and as I have a couple of flower festivals coming up.............. Claire in Montréal. FRANCE

Thank you, Unfortunately my photo is awful over flashed, and I only got to take one as they kept us pretty busy. I have asked the magazine people if I can have a copy of the photo they took, I hope they say yes. If not I have to wait until the magazine publishes the results. Claire in Montréal. FRANCE

I am having a dilema about this competition win. Why is life always ready to bite you in the bum? POUT

I had an email yesterday afternoon from the magazine that organised the competition to say congratulations on your joint 3rd place. Some what taken aback I imediatly emailed back to say ; Oh, Ok I was verbaly told I had come second but thank you anyway.

Having pondered overnight, I think I would like some clarification on which place I have been awarded but I am very wary of rocking the boat and sounding like a winger. I know that the editor told me I came second but as it was informal while I was packing up my outfit, it was the same for everyone but the 1st place which was announced onstage, I don't acctualy have it witnesed. Will I sound like a moaner if I email again? I hate being a moaner but I'm now feeling a bit messed about.

No, just email them explaining that you were told one thing at the NEC by the editor, and now they are saying something different, and please could they clarify your position and explain the anomoly.

Thank you Kate , I have done that now.

I was worried I would seem as if I had accepted the second, in my view changed result, as I had already replied and would seem moany by questioning it later. But you have made me see that to ask for clarification is fine.

I'm not usually a push forward person but I think this needs to be sorted and I shouldn't just take it as is. I have been polite and clear so that should be fine

It's not my mistake is it., that's what I am telling myself.

I have just added the outfit to my site on the Recycle/Restyle page. Some one got me picture of us both so you can see it on her at the bottom of that page.

She looks very cute even if I say so myself.

here's how it was explained.

"I am sorry that you are disappointed. I am the editor and I am probably the person who told you your position, but I can assure you that it is

3rd and always was. I wouldn?t have said joint third at the time, as in the hustle and bustle, we were just telling everyone their position whilst collecting their garments.

Your name is on the sheets of paper we filled in at time of judging as third, and that hasn?t changed.

All I can think is that you misunderstood.

Of course, if you do not want your prize, we can arrange for it to go to a charity.

Seems unlikely. Do "second" and "third" sound similar in French? I think she probably misspoke.

However, on the bright side, third is on the way to second, so maybe next year...? ;-)

You both do, indeed. ;-) It's amazing what you can make out of used garments, apart from patchwork bedcovers and rag carpets - which do look nice but there are better uses for some old garments, as we can clearly see here. It's all very cleverly done, and I especially like the asymmetrical pattern of the dress. And reversible, now, that's a trait every mom will appreciate immediately. BTW, Kate, doesn't the gilet fabric remind you of something? How many cushions does it take to dress the bride? ;-)

My favorite pictures on your site are of your wedding. I don't remember if you ever explained who was the dress's original owner. It's a gorgeous dress, and you looked spectacular in it.

it to go to

FWIW

I agree with Kate and Joanne and some others takes on this.

You heard two different things you wanted some clarification. Are the magazine people not capable of making a mistake ?

And the reply sounded catty to me as well and telling... as if winning a prize should be all that mattered to you.

I would only be tempted to respond that i was perfectly capable of selecting a deserving charity to send the prize to.

Tell her, in writing, that you want to claim your prize and that you prefer to decide for yourself what to do with it.

That was a nasty response and uncalled for! Get the prize as fast as you can before they change their minds again!
