OMG! I WON!

I won "Best of Show"!

Okay, so it WAS the little rinky-dink, smalltown Watermelon Festival Day quilt show that was put on by the Friends of the Library. So, it WASN'T real judges, people just came in and looked at the quilts and voted for their favorites.

But it was the first quilt show I ever entered. I won $50. I was so excited you'd think I had won the gold medal of the Quilting Olympics.

DH isn't home from work yet, and I was just bustin' to tell someone.

Many, many congrats Sherry! That is totally awesome. :-) Don't minimize the Watermelon Festival Day quilt show--people obviously chose what they liked. That's nothing to scoff at!

So are you taking that $50 to the LQS? Or maybe yourself and DH out to dinner?

Oooo. You guys don't laugh. I told you it was a small show :-) I think there was 30 quilts all together. I hope this url works and isn't too long.

But of course! Isn't it mandatory to spend the cash prize at a quilt show at LQS? :-)

Worked perfectly and I LOVE the quilt. Who cares if there were "only" 30 quilts.

Congratulations, I think winning a smaller, non-judged show is better because you know that people just went with their gut feelings. Your quilt made them feel happy so they voted for it.

Whenever I go to a big show, I vote for whatever quilt made me feel something warm inside, may have been the colors, or the subject matter, but whatever, it just reached me somehow.

I'm sometimes disappointed to see what the "real" judges think of as great at some of the bigger shows. The quilt may have been technically perfect, but it doesn't do a thing for me.

I went to the Lowell, MA Quilt Festival this past weekend and fell in love with a large quilt depicting a man and little girl in a greenhouse full of flowers. It made me remember my dad ( who died when I was 14 ) and how he would always take the time to explain the "whys and hows" of things to me. Although the quilt was exquisitely made, I loved it because it reached down into my heart.

Do it!! I didn't have the nerve to either. I'm going to enter a "real" quilt show in the fall. I probably won't win, but at least now I know that there are semi-beginners out there like me, whose quilts aren't all art masterpieces, they're just pieced quilts. I was still shocked that this quilt won. I went up there at 5:00, I was hot, and tired, and was dressed somewhat like a bag lady. I was just going to pick up my quilt. I never dreamed it would win and I'd end up with my picture in the newspaper. :-(

LOL! You silly girl. For the next show, you'll know to dress for pictures. :-)
