Quilt Show Opinions, Please??

Our little show at our Library is tomorrow. I took grandbaby-to-be's new quilt & entered it. Baby quilts are a separate division.

I noticed the baby quilt that won last year was entered again. Is that usually done? It was crisp and pristine and obviously hadn't been used much, at all.

I mean, I guess it's okay if that's what the quilter wanted to do, but I had a thought that I hope Grandbaby's quilt is worn and limp from many washings this time next year. :0)

I won in the fullsized quilt division once, and I didn't even consider entering it again the next year. Really it didn't seem right for some reason. Is that just me? What do ya'll think?

I hope your Baby quilt wins.

My opinion on entering a first prize winner again the next year means that the person is too full of his/her self to make another one and challenge themselves.

Would like to see pics of your baby quilt.

Good luck.

I've seen quilts entered for different shows repeatedly; but never into the same show. But I really don't go to many shows - and I've never seen anything in rules to say it's not allowed. However, I agree with you, it does seem an odd thing to do. Was the 'winner' quilt perhaps just made as a show quilt - not for a baby at all? . In message , Sherry writes

Personally I don't think it's right at all unless it was entered just for show and not for prizes. If the quilter still wants to compete he/she should enter it in the next level like a county or state show.

It may not be in the rules this year but I would send some feedback to the organizers asking that a rule be added. Maybe only new quilts that have never been entered or that haven't won prizes at that show before, be allowed. JMO.

Our guild show rules usually stipulate that no quilts shown in the previous guild shows can be entered. Other shows, yes, our own, no. Who wants to pay admission to see the same quilts from last year? (I suppose your library show doesn't charge admission though.)

Our guild has a rule that a quilt previously entered (let alone a winner!) may not be entered again into another guild show. Different shows, fine -- not this same one.

One thought occurred to me, though -- are you sure it's the same quilt? Could it be the twin to it? Perhaps grandma liked it so much she made it again?

In our quilt show here in Cornwall we are not allowed/able to enter a quilt more than once. That's how I assumed all Q S's were.

The little quilt show was today; I entered the baby quilt that I had made for Grandchild due next month. I won! I was thrilled. They had two divisions; regular quilts and baby quilts. I won $25.

I'll post a pic as soon as I get my camera fixed/replaced.

Well done, Sherry! What a lovely outcome for you. You can tell your grandbaby (when s/he can understand!) that his/her quilt is a prize-winning quilt. . In message , Sherry writes

Congratulations! I hope you are saving the photo and the ribbon or such to add to the baby's scrap book. As you said earlier, I hope that quilt is well worn and loved this time next year, so she/he will need the photo of the quilt as it hung in the Library. PAT
