Quilt show winners-- pics

I just checked the web site for the big guild here, and the winners from last weeks show are posted.

Click on the blue ribbon to see the winning quilts. BTW, the Best of Show was quilted on a home machine, not a long or even medium arm. Several hand quilted quilts are also shown.

Have fun, Pati, in Phx

And there were lots more that were just as lovely. It was a rough show to judge.

*Beautiful* quilts, Pati! Did most of the people at the show agree with the judge's choices? Just curious.... ;)

I think they did. We also have 2 judges which I think helps things go a little better. There were a lot of "new" names in the winners' list this year. Partly because there was a division between machine quilted and professionally machine quilted. We have a lot of long armers here in the state and for the last few years a few of them were winning an overwhelming proportion of the awards. I did hear some comments about the fact that the Best of Show was quilted on a regular home machine. This is a plus in many minds. There were some absolutely gorgeous, wonderful quilts that didn't win anything of course. But, as I always tell people when they comment on that, it depends on the category the quilt was in and how many wonderful quilts were entered in that category.

Nope. They didn't look at Pati's very well. Not sure what they considered wrong with any of hers. I wanna quilt like she does when I grow up.

I do have to agree on the ribbon given to the one that had 'shadows' of the Ohio Star: Excellent Use of Color by Carolyn Edwards

Butterfly (no, I didn't 'see' the large one until Pati pointed it out)

Thanks, Pati. I think having two judges is a great idea. I wish we did that, but I doubt that anything will convince the board that it might be a good idea. We did, however, separate our professionally machine quilted entries from our other machine quilted entries a couple of years ago -- it gives the home quilters a chance to shine. :)

Well, I got good comments on my judging sheets, B'fly. The bigger one was just competing with too many really good quilts. Thanks though on the compliments. I do my best most of the time. That "Excellent use of color" quilt is easy to see in the photo, but in person you really have to step way back to see the big star in it.

I certainly do think the viewer's choice:

If I remember correctly, that is broiderie perse applique with a lot of thread painting over it. It was gorgeous. An example of a wonderful quilt that didn't win a judges' ribbon but deserved it. We had so many really wonderful quilts that I am glad I didn't have to judge them.
