I'm so excited!

Well, now that it's a reality, I can share my good news! As of this afternoon, I'll be the proud owner of a long-arm quilting machine. I got the call this morning that they'll be here about 4 p.m. to set it up and teach me how to use it. I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it! I took the afternoon off of work, because I figured I wouldn't be much good there anyway.

To add to this fun, my mom e-mailed me last night to tell me she has something to be "done" on my new machine - I've warned her there's a learning curve and she shouldn't expect anything too soon! I've been trying to get her to take up quilting since nearly forever ago, but she's always said she doesn't have the patience. She says she put something together yesterday, so I'm thinking she might have made a table runner or something like that. I'm really hoping this is the beginning of a new hobby for her, but she's so busy as it is, she may not think she has the time for it. I'm not giving up on her, though!

Thanks! I'm trying to finish up some tops that have been WIPs for a while so I'll have something to work on when I develop a little proficiency. And the owner of our LQS has some charity quilts she'll give me to practice on, so that'll really be helpful.

Ok, tell us what kind you got! I am so excited for you!!!! I have been doing alot of research for the day when my house is built and I can have a long-arm to put in it. I can be envious and drool from afar.....

I'm getting an APQS Millennium. I've been dreaming of a machine for years and finally have the room for one. Our house has a finished basement, but we really aren't using it, so the family room part of it is being converted to my longarm room. I'm still considering whether I want to move my sewing room down there too. For the time being, it'll stay where it is, if for no other reason than I'd have to repaint the sewing room before we could use it for anything else! We'd probably convert it to a den/reading room, and I don't think bright yellow striped walls would be very soothing!

I tried one of those at PIQF.........did you try any others before deciding on this one or was there a local dealer? I'm curious to hear, (if you tried others), what made you choose the Millennium. Thanks for your information......

I have to admit, knowing that the longarm was coming was an incentive to get some of those swap blocks made into tops! I finished the Christmas one from the You Pick It, and I'm just about finished with the Black, White, and Red All Over. It'll be a day or two before I'm ready to load them onto the machine, but I'm sure going to have fun playing until I get to that point!

We're in the book!!! I didn't get the nearby local brand - I got the 2.5 hours away local brand! In other words, I passed on the Nolting but got the APQS (not affiliated but hope to be a very satisfied customer very soon!).

Thanks, Sandy. I guess I was afraid that if I said something before I knew the delivery date that I might somehow jinx it! I sure wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow - I'd much rather be playing.

I have to admit that I'm not a good shopper! I had tried another brand at a quilt show last year, but at that point I wasn't too serious about getting one. Earlier this year I sent for information from three different vendors, but I think deep down I really wanted to go with APQS. I had an opportunity to go to their showroom and learn about the machine, and I really liked the people and pretty much everything about the experience - they also had a couple of decent discounts that were being offered, and I made my decision based on all of that. Yes, I probably should have visited with the other two vendors, but I know that I would have come away listing all the pros and cons of each, just get myself more confused, and a month later I still wouldn't have made a decision (I know how I can be!). I just have to say, "Okay, this is it," and go for it (that's how I bought my sewing machine, too).

APQS is somewhat local, as their main showroom is in Des Moines and the machines are manufactured in Iowa.

Thanks, Patti! Yes, it really is the start of a new era. I have always been a hand quilter, but after seeing some of the machine work that's being done by more seasoned long- and short-armers, I became much more interested trying it myself. I still love hand quilting and will probably always have a hand-quilted project in the works, but the machine will allow me to get more done in a shorter period of time -- I hope!

One of these days Louise...we're ARE going to get together! Maybe I'll bring a present for your new baby! It's nice that you stuck with an Iowa brand!!

KJ< who is perturbed with her Iowa Maytag washer right now.....sounds like a major repair or replacement is in the near future. That makes #3 failure....treadmill died, DS car died and now the washer may be terminal. Darn thing is less than 10 years old!

I'm not usually a good shopper either. Really. If someone told me the price was a limited offer, or if the package was a limited deal, I'd probably go for it. That is how I ended up with my Nolting Hobby Quilter....."Introductory price". I didn't really shop around much.....I love the machine but I am now seriously wanting the stitch regulator so I can get better at more detailed work.

Congrats and good luck with your Millennium!

Congratulations; what fun that will be! If it were me, I'd have taken the entire week off LOL

Believe me, I would have loved to take the whole week off, but we're already short-handed this week, so . . .
