I-Spy Swapping

Anyone interested in swapping (pre-washed) 4 inch I-Spy novelty squares? If a large number of people want to do it, I could host a swap, but I was thinking more along the lines of just swapping with a few people who might be interested. I'd like 4 of each square (explanation below), but you can specify whether you want all different squares or two of each (or, like me, 4 of each).

I started cutting them for a future quilt for my nephew awhile back and thought I'd be clever by cutting two of everything, so that I could make two I-Spy quilts (since another baby is bound to come along in the family eventually). Then I recently decided that I'd like to make them 'match' quilts also, meaning I need two of each block for each quilt, so now I need four of each - back to the cutting mat!

Feel free to respond here or email me offline.

I'm interested. I wanted to make one for my DGS and then found out a DGD was on the way - due in 4 weeks. I have a feeling these little angels will be my only grands for a very long time so I think I am safe making two I-spies.

Are you making the traditional hexagon blocks or just combining squares with sashing?

I'm going to use squares (not sure of setting yet - haven't gotten that far!). Would 4 inch squares work for you two, or do you have a different size in mind? I have plenty of designs at this point, so just let me know how many you want to swap, and how many repeats you want of each, and I'll get cutting!

(You two agree we should just swap personally rather than trying to organize a formal swap? seems easier).

I think squares would work great for me. I love the hexagon design but I think that would be a bit too ambitious for me right now. I just started collecting FQ and hope to add to the stash when I go to the Fort Washington show. I now go to the shows just to get I-spy fabrics.

I only need two squares of each at this point.

I will go through my stash to find other designs as well and I will make sure everything is prewashed.

I can handle 10 designs at this point but will work with other suggestions as well.

Here's what I did with 4" I Spy squares. I think it worked just as well as the hexagon quilt and it was much easier! The border was 2" squares with little motifs. This quilt was FUN to make, the hexagon one was a lot more work.

What a great idea and a beautiful quilt! I counted 7 blocks by 9 blocks, right? What size is your inner border?

the inner border was 2" finished as was the outer novelty border. That was another reason it was so easy. No fussy math since the last two borders finished the same size as the inner blocks!

I-SPY SWAP

A few people have expressed interest via email, so I will "host" a small swap.

Let's swap 4 inch squares of prewashed 100% cotton quilting-quality fabric These will be novelty squares - juvenile, fun, animals, bugs, food, cartoon characters, recognizable objects... use your imagination.

You may swap as many sets of fabric as you'd like (within reason) -- each set should consist of 20 squares of fabric, with 2 of every square (so, 10 designs x 2 of each = 20). This will allow people who want to make their I-Spy quilt into a "match game" quilt to do so. If you'd like to swap multiple sets, the sets can be identical to each other, but please use 10 different fabrics in each set.

Deadline: sign up by EMAIL to l_marsellaATyahoo.com (replace AT with @) by September 18 - please tell me how many sets you think you'll be sending. Mail the squares to me so that I recieve them by October 5, and I'll mail them out by October 11 (to allow for stragglers).

Email me if you're an international shipper and want to participate.

Please enclose a self addressed envelope with your squares. You can enclose a stamp for a postage contribution or just add a little piece of fabric to reimburse me and I'll handle postage back to people.

What did I forget?

-Lynn, off to cut!

You might want to reconsider changing the size to 4.5 inch blocks.

Sorry for the many posts, but I want to make sure you all see it before getting started. My block were 4.5 and 2.5 inch cut....4 and 2 inch finished.....

Yup, that would make me adapt too! I just wanted to make sure what I'd posted earlier was clear. Have fun swapping!

I did hexagon I-Spy's for my grandkids. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily they went together. I used the assembly method described at

I used the 5"-diameter "Come Quilt With Me" plastic templates for cutting the pieces.

I think I have those templates. May give it a go. I'll see what how full my plate is at that time. Thanks for the link!
