Ideas for Half-Square Triangles?

Hello, I have been cutting 3 7/8" squares out of scraps for a long time. When I get a moment, I match a dark and a light together and make some HSTs. Now I have quite a few.... Does anyone have a good idea for a layout? I don't want them all to just face the same way. I want something with a little more visual impact! I do have hundreds of Flying Geese that finish at 3 x 6. I might be able to combine the two?.......

There's a way to do a Lone Star type design with HSTs, where each "arm" of the star is a parallelogram, not a diamond. I don't have a link right now, but it's easy to sketch out on graph paper or with EQ. It can be made in any size depending on how many you have. Flying geese would make a nice border.

This thread comes at a perfect time. I have been crocheting half-square triangles to make a 'quilt' for one of our quilter's group ladies who works primarily with them in making all her quilts. It's a birthday gift. Any more links for us?

the bottom of this page are a bunch of blocks with lots of HSTs.'wyoming valley' would use HSTs and FGs in those side units nicely.'all hallows' there could also use both HSTs and FGs.tho neither of those blocks show FGs, doesnt mean you cant use 1 FG in place of two HSTs. there is another block i cant think of the name of now, too early here yet, maybe it will come to mind later, then i'll post it...assuming the light bulb goes on later, of course, has been known to go all day without a twinkle of light. just more ideas to add to your list, lol. have fun, jeanne

found another couple of blocks that look pretty darn good together.

near the bottom of the page...eccentric quilt and ribbon star blocks. :)all HSTs in the eccentric but the ribbon could use FGs with one square in the middle. rather striking used together, i reckon. jeanne

I've just found the sheet I printed out of a wonderful collection of 'invented' half square triangle blocks. the url I have on the bottom of the sheet is:

had another thot...amazing, eh. you could also make the Card Trick block by breaking down each of the 9 sections into a 4 patch. on each side unit you'd use one square and three HSTs. makes for a bigger card trick but what the heck. also whats the other block like a card trick? cant recall now and fingers getting too cold to type now, gotta drink more hot tea to warm them up. it'll come to me soon, i hope. jeanne

Pat has a lovely hill. I'm quite jealous. I can never remember which county it's in... I got horribly turned around while there. That's me, take me more than 5 miles from the coast and I'm lost. Still not used to living on an island.

All kinds of things spring to mind, finding pictures or patterns online is always my problem....

Amish Sawtooth Bars is about the first thing I though of. Here is one:

are a pair in counterpoint:

sawtooth bars are about a third of the way down the page. Picturestake a bit of time, but do take the time to have a peek at theimpressive tumbling blocks quilt at the bottom of the page while youare there. I have also seen sawtooth bars done with sashing between the vertical bars. Zig zag bars are on the same page, it looks like those are done mostly with flying geese, but there is no reason it could not be done with HSTs. A fair few patterns seem to be done sometimes with one, sometiomes with the other. I reckon it depends on the quilter or the quilter's whim.

The second pattern that popped to mind is Ocean Waves. I'm glad it did, for you see on my planet you piece prism shapes and piece them together with setting blocks. this looks considerably easier and faster:

I may have to make another ocean waves just to see how that goestogether.

Ooooo! I went looking for the Buckwheat pattern and found Block Central's coloring pages!

and Birds in the air are both on this page, both take abunch of HSTs. Corn and Beans is there too, and that would also takesome of your flying geese if the size is compatible. There areseveral more that may suit on the other pages in the alphabet. I findI rather fancy this one:

have to tuck that onto the to do list for when the trianglemania comes upon me. NightMist
