landscape class

Took a 2 week landcape class with a lady called Colleen Zerr from Vancouver Island, B.C. It was so fantastic and I learnt so much. The first day we made our actual landscape out of strips from a picture we had brought to class. Appliqued on (raw applique) mountains and any foreground things such as large trees or in my case a dock. Took it home, did border treatments and sandwiched it. Today we free motioned and thread played with it.

I learnt some things I didn't know I could do with my machine. I had never zig zagged (satin stitch) with my free motion foot down. It was lovely and very freeing for what we were doing. We made trees and did bark treatment with that. We also learnt to make waves by satin stitching, clipping the threads, satin stitching, clipping etc and then stitching over with our threads to secure - looks great (although not a technique I have done with mine. Some people did some of their free motioning on stabilizer first then putting that on top of the layered landscape to give the art quilt some texture(not really needed on mine but on my next one it might be if I do a daylight picture - mine was a sunset ocean picture).

Anyhow was great class with a really wonderful relaxing teacher. I look forward to taking another of her classes in the spring. What a treat to come home not tired but refreshed. Unfortunately my hands won't let me do anymore tonight but maybe by this weekend I can finish! Would be nice.

Hope everyon else managed to have a great day. It was even sunny today - last week's class was held in streaming pouring rain so bad we all got soaked just getting from our class to our cars.

Not a terribly good description Jeanne but here is her webpage and the first picture is the idea of the strips. Will take a picture after of mine - it is in too fragile a state right now to post on a wall (I haven't glued down the last of the applique. Looked at it again this morning and still love it - good sign for me.

I live on the island. I have admired her art quilts before but never taken one of her classes. The next one I want to take is her flower one - the lily is wonderful. Of course she sells patterns but she likes you to do your thing if possible - make it your own. She was a great teacher.

My hands just did not allow more work today but I suspect I might get to finished stage by Sunday just because i want to see it done too!
