Lesson learned the hard way...

Well Jeanne - you lost me at line 5!!

But ... I *will* learn it. I'm so full of admiration (and some envy) at the way you all click and press and there they are. I have a beautiful camera, too ... ... . In message , nzlstar* writes

Thanks very much, Sally! And - you realised the significance of my learning *after* end of October >gg< Thank you. Not much room in my head for anything else at the moment! . In message , Sally Swindells writes

Oh, I have a lovely camera, C. No problem there. Usually I just hand the camera over to DH and he does the rest. He put some onto my computer the other day, with me sitting here, so I know it's quick and easy. So funny when you all say 'just plug it in and there you are' ... well .. first lesson: where to plug in >gg< I will feel such a nitwit when I have learned, but DH is not a clear and patient teacher, so I dread 'lessons' >gPatti - my "new" digital camera (about 18months old) cost

Not sure yet which way I will go, Julia. I think there is a card reader in the house (at least, there is an unidentified object on DH's desk!). I do *know* there are 'ports'; but what and where they are? not yet ... . In message , Julia in MN writes

Oh that is dreadful! Hopefully by the sound of it they are committed to memory!

Oh Pat! Your DH is such a dear -- I know he would be patient! I just don't believe that for a minute LOL.

Tell him from me, be kind to you, get the kitties involved....Bronnie

So sorry that your earlier quilts are unavailable for pictures, Vikki. I learned my lesson the same way. I make sure I take pictures now before a quilt leaves the house.

Smile! Not when he's teaching!! And then there's the "or else you could do it this way - - -" just when I'd grasped Part 1 >g< I'll have to be firm about baby steps. Thanks Bronnie! and the kitties will be involved; probably outside my study door, scratching and mewing . . In message , Bronnie writes

Patti, your first question to your DH should be "How does the camera or it's removable memory connect to the computer?" That was the only problem I had. DH had to get a specific connecting cord and hook it to my computer, but your camera or it's removable memory might hook directly to either your computer or your scanner or printer.

Second question is, "How do I look at and edit the pictures once they are in the computer?" The camera may have come with specific software or you might be able to use programs that you have used in the past. I can use my scanner software to do editing like cropping and PC Paintbrush for other editing, and other programs for simply viewing.

Using picture sharing websites is as easy as signing up and downloading their software. I had no problems at all using WebShots. Debra in VA See my quilts at

So, Debra, you think it would be more successful for me to ask questions? Rather than just 'be told' everything? I am usually a model pupil - and a pretty good teacher, so I'm told >g< - but it is just with DH that I get 'nervous' and I don't function well at all. But, this time I really am determined. I'll remember this, and start with a few questions. I could even write them down, so they don't go out of my mind when needed!

I'll use our website, because we have it there, and we should use it (DH updates it occasionally with info.), although it probably won't be as user friendly as Webshots.

Thanks ever so much for your thoughts. I really am grateful to everyone for such encouragement. . In message , Debra writes

oh dear, i am ever so sorry if i confuddled you, Patti. all i meant to say was i'm sure it will all become clear quick as a flash once you get dh sitting beside you, slowly and carefully guiding you holding the mouse and clicking thru the appropriate buttons. thats really all it takes, just a few minutes of time. YOU need to be holding and clicking tho with his patient(hard as it might be for him) guidance. you can do this, of that i'm sure cuz it really is easier than making a quilt, quicker too, lol. i look forward to seeing all your pix soon as you can find the time available for it. hugz, jeanne

When I'm trying to get DH to teach me something on the computer I have to ask questions, very specific questions. If I don't he tries to teach me either too little and I'm still lost, or way too many ways to do the same thing and I'm just confused. I only need to learn one way, but I want to learn that one way well, so I've had to learn to ask specific questions to get the info I need. Since I learn best by doing it myself, I sit at the computer and have him tell me what to do, step by step. Slowing him down to my learning speed helps keep him from trying to show me a dozen things at once too. After he has told me once, I try to do it all by myself to see if I've got all the steps in my head correctly.

Writing each step down is a good idea. It does help to be able to look at notes whenever you need them.

I have no doubt that you can learn it. If you can learn how to make a quilt, you certainly can learn how to do this.

Actually it will probably be easier than WebShots because you will be in total control of the picture page.
