Lighthouse squishies received from....

Just a quick note to thank those who have already sent me a squishy.

These include:

Nancycog in MD BestyRoss004 Karen in Charleston, IL Polly Mardor Snigs WitchyStitcher Bonnie in NJ

Thank you all so much! I will be down to Ohio to see my Sister next week...and to go to the MD with her to learn what, if any, options she has. It will be a rough week. I'll be anxious to get back home to check for squishies and begin to start making filler blocks. I thought I might try to do some like the semifore flags -- if I can find them on the web!

Please keep my dear Sis in your prayers.

May I suggest your not putting the names of the ppl that sent you a block on the NG----it 'hurts' those that want to do it but can't. We went thru this once before---before your time---and it really upset some NG'ers...as it made them feel like this was a 'competition' and it isn't. Putting the names on a website with the square(s) made is a different story even tho some of us do prefer our 'online name' be used.

Yes, I know someone else is doing the same thing, I just hope she sees this too. Would rather do this privately than on the NG--that's why we usually request that the person sending the block include their email so you can thank them directly. I tried emailing you but it bounced.

Gentle Hugs and good luck with your squares.

Doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when I put out the effort to send a block and never hear that it arrived. That's happened more than once.

I have sent a lighthouse by airmail - but can only hope it will arrive in time.

I have made a quilt that used BRAILLE (felt applique dots and dashes) for a blind girl once and found this site handy for a sailing friend - I put his name in semaphore in the border.

Hi, Kate

Two 6.5" lighthouse blocks will go out in the mail today and will be on their way to your home.

May you and your sister find some light this week.

Yes, I do agree. I thought that this was one reason for the Hug list (the other being that Hugs in process can be kept secret from the person about to be Hugged). Think on the whole I would prefer to feel that my contribution, or otherwise, was not broadcast. Just makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Pictures of the squares are always interesting, but if its a king size made of 6" blocks might be a bit overwhelming (!) and love piccies of the finished article.

An e-mail on receipt is appreciated. I always send one when I post the block, so it is even easier to reply. One block took almost a month to arrive, despite being airmail with an estimated 5 days, so got a bit concerned about that one. When you make a block for a hug, never mind how simple, it becomes very personal so knowing its safe arrival is good.

I know its probably illogical not wanting to be listed - a bit like having presents on display!

More gentle hugs to you and your sister.

Cheryl! Thank you so much for posting this website! I am designing a quilt for our new bedroom - which will be all nautical theme. I think I would like to incorporate this. Make each flag for what I want to say, into a quilt block. How cool. THANKS!

Oh please put it somewhere. I like to know if my block arrived or got lost. That way I can make another one if it didn't arrive. We've posted several times here that it is voluntary to send blocks for Hugs and if one doesn't want to participate there is no hard feelings. Please let us know when the blocks arrive.

If you are ever making a quilt for a motor sports fan there are sites that have all the grand prix marshall flags as well. My revhead still has his "Race Quilt" (now over 15 years old) that incorporates all the flags and his favourite team's racing logo.

Cheryl, that's a wonderful place to go play. Thank you so much. We have a precious DBIL who loves sailing and now I can write his name on a little quilt for him. How great. I confess, his name is Bob so this is not going to be a killer of a project . . . but I know he will be so pleased. Polly

Polly - I had the same thought for a pair of neighbor boys who have a sailing themed bedroom. Both their names are kind of short - but I thought they would make really cute wall hangings using the flags to make quilt blocks of their name.

Let's compare notes when we get to this project!
