Squishies?

Okay ladies.

I found the FAQ that tells me what squishies are, but I cannot find any information that tells me how to join in.

If you would care to share that particular bit of information with a newbie, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you need someone's address, you can just ask them. Or you can ask someone to ask them, if you prefer to be sneaky.

Twice a year (give or take), a post goes out to the newsgroup that the directory will be updated. Two members here (LN and AliceW) take it upon themselves to compile a list of people who want to share addresses. The last update was in July, I think, so perhaps the next one will be in the Winter sometime. The directory info *only* goes to those who are in it.

There is no "member's list" or anything here - it's a public forum. So, this is a private way to share info. Many people choose to be in the directory; many choose to stay out.

Need my address? ;-)

We have a directory of people who wish to share their addresses with the others on the directory. LN updates this a couple of times a year, and she will let us know when it is time to do so. When you get a notification here in the group, if you are interested, fill out the form right away, because the window of opportunity is not very long. It's easy to do, and will provide you more than enough addresses of people to squish. If a person is not on the directory, and until/unless you are able to get into the directory, the only way to get someone's address is to ask them directly. In order to maintain the surprise, you'll want to plan ahead a little. Ask for their info, then wait a little while, so they forget and are surprised! hope that answers your question.

WHAT was i thinking???? oh yeah, I was thinking that....wait, I forgot. Yep, my address is available for anyone who wants it for squishing purposes. my email address is craftigirl at earthlink dot net just in case you needed it, or something.

I may have been at this a long time, but I'm still young enough to walk to my mailbox.

Jenn, a squishy is an unsolicited gift to a fellow quilter. Maybe you are particularly touched by someone's struggles with life and wish to cheer them up, or maybe you have extra of a material that you know someone on the list would like, or you think someone is sweet and generous of spirit and just want to say, " I appreciate you". A squishy can be sent to anyone on the list for whatever reason makes you happy.

Some people's snail mail addresses are in LN's directory, which is sent to everyone in the directory and is updated a couple times a year. Some people who participate here, are not in that directory, so if you wanted to squish them, you e-mail them and ask for their snail mail addy.

It's great fun to open your mailbox on a particularly trying day and discover that you've been squished. It's just as much fun to root through your stash to find a perfect little piece to send off to cheer someone up.

Place material in a zip-lock baggie, then in an envelope, stamp, and off it goes to do its magic.

You squish whomever you want, whenever you want, and someday you get squished in return, that about sums it up.
