Making quilt labels

I've gone through several "stages" in making labels for my quilts. I began by either writing on them or hand embroidering my name. That was stage one.

Stage two was using some wonderful software to make labels printed on fabric; when I finally found really good printable fabric, they did very nicely, though they do fade a bit over time. Sadly, the software is no longer compatible with the OS on my Mac, and it isn't supported any longer by the maker. What to do?

Embark upon stage three, of course. I bought an embroidery module for my Bernina, and I'm *loving* playing with it! I didn't buy the *very expensive* software, but it came with some less-capable software that should do me very well for a long time. I made my first label before I had any formal instruction on how to use the module, and I've now taken two of the three "mastery" classes offered by my Bernina dealer. We made another journal cover in the first one, learning how to place the fabric in the hoop and which stabilizers to use and how. The second class had us making an appliqué and lace ornament, again working on placement (and adjusting the placement onscreen) and more about stabilizers, and ending with a short introduction to the software I have. The third class will be while I'm away, so I'll take it when it's offered again in August, and that one will deal entirely with software.

Don't ask how much I remember, but I'm sure having a good time doing this! I posted photos of the two embroideries on my blog.

I am going to ignore you. I am not going to give in to the good price I found over at Big Horn for the Sakura by Red Rooster. I am not. I am strong. Polly

Oh Sandy, once you learn how to do this maybe I can persuade you to make a few labels for me. Then I won't have to learn how to do it on my machine-------lazy me! Barbara in SC

Polly, please don't resist! That Sakura quilt just jumped out and

*grabbed* me at my LQS! I've finished the top now, and I love it; but I'll have a delay in sandwiching and quilting it, since I'm going to be coming and going a lot in the next few weeks. I'm taking a couple of classes next week, and I know they'll result in at least one new project, too. My WIP pile is getting a bit "topple-y". ;)

Wow! Sandy! that is great! I'm still using iron on transfers for my labels and coloring them in with Pima color pens! They still come out good and since I don't have an embroidery machine anymore....no other options that are space-friendly.

I do wish I had kept my serger tho! Used to do the label squares on it so they didn't ravel underneath. Using pinking shears for that!

Back to the frontier days for me!

LOL!
