marking pen for embroidery

I am making kaledescope quilts for gifts x 3 for Christmas. I want to find a pen that's ink will disappear without water after I get the embroidery done on it. It will be my handwriting so it can't be too thick. Help please ! barbara

There are marking pens that disappear on their own in a short period of time. They are readily available at LQS, internet shopping, WalMart, etc. Just read the packaging. One thing to beware of tho- the chemicals from the ink are still in the fabric- it could cause troubles later??? Don't use them myself- the chemical residue thing and they disappear too quickly for me (usually from 15 minutes to an hour or two depending on how heavily it's marked, humidity, type of fabric and several other factors). Maybe a Chaco-Liner or other chalk method would be better? The chalk brushes away easily with no residue.

yes I feared them. Is a Chaco liner fine enough for writing ?

i got one of those pencils you use on paper, then iron that onto fabric. i got it for embroidery and/or applique placing. i think it washes out, not really sure, have yet to try it. seemed like a good idea at the time and was cheap so why not. anyone know about those? its purple, another good reason to buy it, lol. jeanne

Did you buy that when you were here with me? If so, where did we get it? Was it Parkland Parish, or the Dragon?

good grief, jenn. i dont recall. i just got all these notions i got when on the big trip. no idea what i got where, lol. i got two purple pencils that i draw on paper with then iron the paper to the fabric and the design transfers to the fabric. was Dragon where we got all the orientals and sashiko stuff, when Donna and Adele were with us? which one was Parkland Parish? see its all a blurr in my head, lol. hugz, jeanne

I have one of those pencils (might be a different brand or whatever) I bought mine at JoAnn's Mine specifically says it will NOT wash out :/ So - it has sat in my sewing box ever since...but it does work very well at transfering a design..

Barbara: I agree with Leslie. (I've already agreed with Roberta elsewhere ... I am just so agreeable today!!) Another thought about the 'disappearing pens' ... Tidewater Virginia is sooooo humid the ink disappears quickly. I KNOW this! ;)

I like the chalk wheel th> I am making kaledescope quilts for gifts x 3 for Christmas. I want to
