Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Channukah, Merry Kwanza

I hope I got all those correct....anyway....I have been posting more to the FaceBook group because I tend to check there first. I just wanted to send everyone warmest wishes and a very quilty New Years to all.

I haven't been doing much quilting until recently when, on another website, the topic of Jelly Roll quilts came up and we decided to have an "in group " challenge in January. Having never played with JRs before, I decided to give it a try...well, I'm on my 3rd one already...lol. First one was half a JR because that's the way Walmart had them packaged, so I just added bord ers and such and made it a longer quilt and sent it to my dad (he's 6'2" an d has a hard time finding coverings that are long enough for him). Made th e 2nd one and sent that with the first, and it went to Mom2. Now I'm worki ng on finishing hand sewing the binding on #3, which is pinks and greens fo r my Mother. phew! The first 2 were completely done and ready to go in 2 weeks, the third is taking a bit longer because we've had home school issue s (son not completely reading assignments then getting mad when I tell him he needs to re-do his work), sickness (son ended up in ER after Thanksgivin g because we thought his appendix was on the verge of rupturing, and betwee n then and now, 3/4 of us have been sick with upper respiratory crud....but that didn't stop things from getting done). We also had the end of the ye ar camping trip with the Boy Scouts - only DS and I went, and I had just be en diagnosed with bronchitis, but was on antibiotics and had a room to myse lf (it was at a lodge, not in tents). DS got elected (19 out of 25 boys vo ted for him) as troop librarian, and the Monday after we got back, was the last court of honor for the year and he received his Scout rank plus 2 meri t badges! Busy few months around here.

Right now, I'm taking a 48 hour break from the quilt because I haven't fini shed the 4 pairs of pajama pants that need to be done BEFORE Christmas Eve since that's the only present that is opened that night - everything else g ets opened on Christmas Day (AFTER breakfast because the one year we let th em open things before breakfast, everyone forgot to eat until almost luncht ime and the blood sugars were low enough that there was fighting all mornin g)....phew!

DD has decided she wants more skirts as well as her new quilt....both are w aiting until she shows a little more responsibility with her belongings bec ause she has been shoving clothes on bookshelves and under her bed instead of putting them away, and the deal with the quilt was that I would work on it when I had the time, but not to expect it until she could keep her room reasonably clean - she's hoping for a new paint job in her room this coming spring, but that is also dependent on keeping things a bit tidier (I can't paint around piles of clothes, papers that she won't toss, etc.). DS is e xcelling at the home school work (despite earlier mentioned problems) and w as able to skip 7th grade math and go right into 8th grade math. It's his lowest grade at this point, but when the lowest grade is an 86%, I'm not go ing to complain....DD is still in public school and is doing her best to ma intain straight As so she gets a dressy dinner date out with her Daddy at t he end of the school year.....phew again!

So...that's what's going on in my little fabric-filled spot of the world. I will try to be more consistent with projects and popping in to say hello. Have a wonderful rest of 2012 and a fabulous 2013!!
