Might make a baby quilt.

A friend told me she's preggers. Her other kids are old enough that she doesn't have any baby things anymore. Sounds to me like she could use a good baby quilt.

Anyone have some good applique designs?

Maybe I should make a happy brick quilt with lots of brights and novelty prints?

I don't know. I am a very slow quilter and I don't do triangles so I'd like some suggestions other than the Warm Wishes pattern. Debra in VA See my quilts at

What about Teddy Bears. If you get a kid's colouring book there should be lots of designs you can take from there.

Yesterday I had messages from two friends who are about to become grandmothers (Jealously!!)

I've looked through hundreds of patterns - originally thought of Warm Wishes but I would have to buy fabric for it, and at over £8 a yard ($16) it was more than I wanted to pay, especially as there are two quilts to do. So I have decided on Yellow Brick Road using what I already have in my stash, though may have to buy a little more for the backings/bindings when I get that far. I'm going to a bead and fabric show with DD this afternoon so I may get a blue small novelty print FQ to go in the boy's quilt. I'm using bright colours for his I think.

The girl's fabric was passed on to me by another friend who had given up quilting. Its 2 6FQ packs all pretty and co-ordinating. From the 5 small hexagons taken from the fabric and the packet of ready cut hexagons she gave me, she didn't get very far, and I also got about 3 yards of assorted Liberty prints.

I'm not very quick either, but the boy is June and the girl July. Thought I could practise my Machine Quilting on them and draw teddies and things. When I did DSisILs quilt I drew birds onto Press 'n Seal and it worked brilliantly, and looked as though I really could quilt!!

So for me - easy piecing and easy (but looks complicated!) quilting!

Just a thought - what size do most people make baby quilts?

I really like this one, but I don't do applique.

The price is right and they send to you by email. The big thing I don't like is that the files are password protected and if you don't use it for a while, you are likely to forget the password.

Replying to self!!

Have just got back from the Bead and fabric show - mainly beads. Found a blue Noah's Ark fabric (all folded up) which I intended to fussy cut, but when I opened it up it is two panels about 18" each with the Ark full of animals, and all for £1.25, so will use one as the centre and think again about the overall design. I have a set of fabrics I am saving to do a Christmas Noah quilt for me (it came to me from my quilting sister who died 6 years ago) - there are holly leaves on it, and Noah's Noel written too but might do a bit of fussy cutting and get one or two animals from the co-ordinating fabric. Will have to spread it out and do a think there. Might just do a conventionalish medallion quilt, but Noah orientated.......

Okay, When I was at Houston I discovered a wonderful source of appliqué patterns. They are all so cute and useful. (NAYY, but I love the patterns, and did buy a bunch of them.) Just checked and if you google for "Spring Creek NeedleArt" you will get a link to the patternco.com and can see these wonderful patterns for yourself. Many are smallish, but can easily be made larger with additional, wider borders. Can be made with any style of appliqué. Happy looking.

get a real pretty color green or purple fabric or both sew th fabric together but leave one side open so that you can stuff it with some filler . then sew some green and purple buttons on it.then find some small stuffed animal duckys and take a hot glue gun and glue 4 of them to the blanket one on each corner. that way when the baby has his or her blanket they will havducks to play with.very simply and fun to make. in virginia beach , virginia

How about a "Wicked Easy" quilt? It's similar to Yellow Brick Road and would be fast and easy and nice with bright novelty prints? The pattern is at

Another one that looks pretty easy is Bubbles . This doesn't have triangles, but it does have bias seams. This one, in black and white, is going to be my next project.

Debra - have a look at the one I just finished - the Winnie the Pooh one in my album. It's simple 4-patch, alternated with fussy-cut big blocks of a kid print. Went together really fast!!
