A new Baby Quilt

Jan 10, 2009 4 Replies

I got word a few weeks ago, that my oldest niece is preggers with her first baby. She had delayed this event until she graduated with a degree in Architecture and had established herself. She specializes in environmentally friendly, energy efficent designs. I chose the Log Cabin pattern for this quilt, as that is somewhat within the theme of her area of specialization. Besides, I like the pattern. Here is the finished quilt. sized 33" x 44" and full of 80/20 cotton/wool. It should be warm in those cold Sierra Winter nights, in Northern California. In an interesting sidebar, I came across a picture of a Shaker Reproduction Rocking Crib that I made for her mother, my sister, about the time that the niece was born. She probably spent her first days in that crib. Now her mother is making that crib available to her and I am sending the quilt, so the cycle continues. I scanned an existing photograph into my computer so you can see the crib. I am going to make another one for myself. No, no babies coming soon for me, but I can loan it out to all the baby producing units that inhabit the midwest; And they are Legion. The first link is the Quilt, the second is the Crib. I tried to post this awhile ago but either it died en-route or there will be a double posting. Either way, enjoy.

Both are beautiful! The cradle looks just like the baby doll cradle my Papa made for me about 50 years ago. I still have it. I'm glad the cradle is being passed down. Nice!

No Roberta, One wife, one dog, and a lot of brothers and sisters and their kids. More than enough to keep me busy for all time to come.

Congrats to your neice, John! Wow, what a beautiful quilt. Your piecing is incredibly precise. The new mom is going to love it!

Very neat little rocking crib too. :-) Your family is going to be set!
