Your Favorite Baby Quilt Pattern?

Could I bother you all to tell me your favorite baby quilt pattern? Or maybe direct me to some that are beginner/intermediate level, or maybe your favorite book?

I got some *very* good news from my daughter today, which I am not allowed to tell yet ... :-) :-)

Thank you!

Congratulations on what we are not allowed to know!!!!

My favourite is hugs and kisses done in "baby brights" - lots of pinks, blues, reds and greens with the odd yellow and even brown thrown in.

I also love primary colours in big squares with a bit of applique - hearts and stars.

Well, guess we're not allowed to congratulate either? I'd use any design you like, just make it a smaller size. Make the blocks smaller too to keep it more in scale, e.g. use 4.5" blocks instead of 6.5". Maybe find something exceptionally cute for the backing, but you know your daughter better than we do. Okay. If we haven't been told and can't congratulate just yet, we will try to control ourselves. . . nope. Can't do it. Yippee. Yeeha! Congratulations. How very, very wonderful. One of our favorite patterns is over at Quiltmaker. The name is Warm Wishes. You can make it in anything from Peter Rabbit to Nascar. This may give you the quilt or the weather in Nebraska. We never know about my computer skills. Polly

Whatever fabric I love and whatever pattern I want to make.

I love making baby quilts as they allow me to experiment on a small scale with just about anything I want to try.

Warm Wishes from the Quiltmaker website is always fun and easy and nice to use some of the cool novelty prints. . You can see one that I made at

Leslie Beck's book "The Quilted Nursery" is good for inspiration if you're decorating a nursery.

Can't wait to tell you congrats!!!!

all my quilts in my quilt folder are for baby's. And I have 2 more to make for my first Granddaughter, Ava Grace, due very, very soon. Do you think you can make too many for your first... So far I have make a receiving blanket, the minkee blanket, and 1 more in the works, Rubber Ducky in "PS I love You 2" I think, using pink duck fabric of course.

Congratulations! (shhhh... ) I've made baby quilts for each of my five grands, and each has been different. I can't help with a "favorite", but I think that picking out something you think you'll like to work on and that your DD will also like will be wonderful.

I like snowballs and nine patches. the snowballs make a great place to put a bright novelty/focus fabric. Another I have fun with is Amish Diamond

and again, the center diamond is a great place for focus fabrics. Here's a pic of one I made for a friend. They are both veterinarians and the center squares all have different animals in them.http://www.flickr.com/photos/debikayem/1138907636/in/set-72157601477766558/Hope this helps!

I like pinwheels--look good in any color combination and lots of movement for little eyes to focus on.

My favorite quilt pattern is Topsy Turvy

We use this pattern for a lot of our Project Linus quilts. You can use all kinds of different kid prints for the center blocks. We often use a different color for each side of the block. Donna in Idaho

Follow up to my original post - you don't need to cut the strips 4" - 3 1/2" is plenty big enough.

Thanks so much for the pics! The "first grandbaby quilt" looks *so* soft, and what pretty, soft colored fabrics. The others were neat--I never realized how much *precious* children/baby fabric there is out there.

Oh, that one is neat, too. And it does not look too hard. It would be really fun to choose from all the neat kids' fabrics for that one. Thank you!

I just can't wait until I can tell you all the reason why I need to start on a baby quilt. :-) I also can't wait until I can tell someone. I think my brain is going to explode soon. We are in our mid-fifties. We have waited on a grandchild for a long time.
