Garnstudio pattern experience?

By the way... I saw the price of the yarn (both single and in bags of 20), but I didn't see the price of the pattern alone. :o/

Yes, that is beautiful. I have not used Garnstudio patterns but this one doesn't look very difficult. I think most of it is chains connected by single crochets. Go for it!

I think the hardest part will be the intriguing join between the body and the sleeve.

The main part shouldn't cause you any concerns, as long as you count carefully (the joins to lower chains look like they attach to specific chain stitch, rather than just the chain loop. I suspect it's similar to ch 9, sl st in the 5th of chain below, sc in same stitch (or ch 2), sl st in same stitch, ch 9. That should produce the interesting little picot type things on the top of the joins. The fans should be pretty easy enough to follow the directions (and they look worked top down, while the rest is worked bottom up....so you leave them off if you have problems until you can find someone to help....and still have a finished sweater).

Thanks for the encouragement, Gem! The pamphlet with the pattern is $10.95. I couldn't find pictures of the other patterns in that book which is too bad - I would be more inclined to bite the bullet if there were other patterns in there I was interested in.

That sweater is beautiful, Abi! I had never heard of Garnstudio before so I'm glad to hear that their patterns are reliable. And you are right about the RCTY coaches! I would not be where I am now knitting-wise without them!

Thanks for the encouragement, Jan! I was wondering if it is similar to the market bag that has been floating around here recently so maybe I will try making that as a test run first. I hate to learn new techniques on pieces that I really care about but I have some cheap cotton lying around which I could practice with.

Thanks for the advice! I have done fan-type things before so I should be okay on those but I haven't ever done open work like the main body. But your explanation makes sense to me so that is a good sign! The edge is what looks intriguing (and difficult) to me but it is also one of my favorite parts. LOL!

I really like it!! It doesn't look that hard, my best advise w/ a crochet pattern is that it is best not to get ahead of yourself. If it is a well written pattern you and you know the stitches you will have it made in a flash. The nice thing w/ open work crochet is that it goes so quickly. Read one step at a time, mark off what you did and move to the next step if you get suck. Good luck, I hope pics soon follow.

Laura, do you have access to a yarn shop that might have the pattern? It would help you decide if you could see the pattern and what stitches are used in it. Also, be sure to check on the return policy if you buy it online.

Yes, I was thinking I might call around and see if anyone has the pattern. I'd prefer to buy it locally anyway though it is awfully easy and tempting when it is right there in front of your eyes on the website :)

Thanks Aud! That is strange that they would post it for free and you're right, I absolutely can't read it! Oh well. I did manage to find pictures of the other designs in the booklet and there are quite a few of them. There are even a couple that I might want to make some day in the future. I think I am going to go for it (did you ever know someone who needed this much convincing to purchase yarn? ;).
