I'm using cotton. We live in Ohio (US) VERY hot and muggy in the summer.

Ah. There are some cute kiddie cottons out there, I knit for a little girl in San Fran... Good luck with it and I hope you share a pic. (Just thought of this: you might have searched for bathing suits and adapted a top.)
