monster quilt at the quilt show...

a while back I was having meltdowns over my monster quilt and some of you may even wonder what happened next...

well it didn't win anything but I ended up being used as the background of an interview on local TV and was mentioned in the opening line of the local newspaper (in fact it's what the whole article *started* with, though that is the only mention LOL it also shows up on the impression photo's of the show (twice!)

so now the place to see the winners of the show, the impression (and if you choose the Dutch version instead of the English one you can see the interview and newspaper article too)

if you go to my yahoo photo's album "waalre 2006" you can see the quilt in various stages of construction being displayed on my balcony (with neighbours coming out onto the street and looking LOL) for photo's and at the show itself.

on a side note... on the back wall there are a lot of quilt displayed that are shop samples of patterns made with that well known Californian based fabric manufacturer - amongst which are 4 quilts a bag and 2 throw pillows that will eventually end up in the magazine - though I can't tell you which (the throw pillows are a giveaway for 2 of the quilts though nudge, nudge, wink, wink though they are purposely rather indistinct so as to keep the patterns hidden)

Ok, I think I need a little more guidance. Can you point out the picures in the "Impressions" secton? (I "think" I know which one...but I want to be sure.) Kj

thanks ! it took several hours of choosing and one or two last moment changes to come this this - it's hard to choose colours to fit a memory of a stunning sunrise.

it is an interesting show - every corridor has quilts as well as the main show area there is a balcony overlooking the show area (some of the overview photo's were made from there) and that has quilts hanging from it too! and last year there were even two quilts hanging from the rafters!

You know Jess, I discovered something looking at all those amazing quilts at the "Really Big Show" this year. Yeah, there are a lot of pretty and amazing quilts....but I found what really awed and inspired me the most - wasn't the most beautiful or the most gorgeous or the most colorful, etc.

It was the quilts like yours, the "monster quilts", the quilts of the Japanese lady who put together over 150,000 little 1/4 inch hexagons, the quilt from the lady who wasn't an experienced quilter, but she made a therapeutic quilt from her heart.

Those are the quilts that touched, moved, inspired me the absolute most. Not the ones that looked like a "competition entry" quilt - but the ones that you KNEW from your heart and soul, took another human beings heart and soul and incorporated it into their love through fabric. Does that make sense to you?

It was the knowing that someone loved what they were doing/creating/representing so much, that they put that "soul" into their quilt. I don't know how else to describe it, but I truly did discover that those kind of quilts, moved and impressed me so much more than all those "I know the most techniques" quilts.

Your quilt shows your heart and soul Jess, that's what makes it amazing!

Hugs, Tina
