Yessssssssssss! Celery will work great! It's more on the yellow side of green rather than the blue. I think that will look great! I think you should look at how a 1.5 inch sash looks with your block. Often, you can use a multple (factor?) (our math friends will let us know if that's the right term) of your block. Since you are using 3" blocks...a sashing half that might be pleasing. I might also suggest you experiment and see what feels right. Lay out your blocks on top of your sashing fabric and leave different amounts of space between them to see what you like. You might intuitively come to the same "math rule". Above all, have fun!

John, I was busy quilting when you began your girly quilt thread and didn't have time to climb in. My concern is with your white/white fabric. Some of those are real killers. Before you proceed very far, do test the white/white to be sure and certain that it behaves nicely. Some of them have white printing that can only be penetrated by a hammer and nails. We realize that you will have both readily at hand. Our Yorkie happily owns a quilt that can never be finished because my SMs could not smoothly FM quilt through it. I think 2" would work. But what I would do if undecided is to make all the blocks, then put a few of them up on the wall with some sashing fabric behind and try out a few widths. You might find even 2" is too much. Or not enough. Who knows? Roberta in D

I have done up quite a few of the squares using the white/white and they seem to be fine. They are only 1"finished size so there is not a lot of it at any one place to deal with. I just liked the delicate nature of the small white detail printing on that piece and thought it worked well with the other color of pale floral print/white background, on the contrasting 1" square. "Girly", if you will pardon the expression. Or better yet, "Delicate". Yes I like that better, a "Delicate Quilt. See, I'm learning.

I had a piece of white on white that I took to a Diane Gaudynski machine quilting workshop. She used my sample piece as an example of what NOT to use! As the needle went through the little white motif, it left a black mark. Not all white on whites are cranky...just some.

You have a design wall -- it's just horizontal.
