Next Question.... What is your favorite...

Kathy: Thanks for the product review. Question: how do you mark or trace your designs on the MF? (On WU one has the paper backing for outlining the chosen piece.) Suggestion: you might try rolling your fused fabric with either freezer paper or waxed paper. Thanks. Pat in VA/USA PS: I am using some of the baseball print squares from the BBS in Quilts of Valor. It works nicely with the Americana prints!

"Work Forward" Draw your pattern piece on parchment with a regular #2 pencil. Assemble a slight oversized piece of Mistyfuse over the drawn lines, then your fabric right-side up on top. Now cover with more parchmnt and iron. As the Mistyfuse attaches to the fabric it will also lift the pencil line off the parchment--a cutting guide line directly on the back of the fabric. Or place "mistyfuse pre-fused" fabric directly over the pencil line. Whichever, your are now "working forward"--which means, no more reversing your design or your thinking, and no cutting through paper. "

This is similar to what I learned in a class. Pre fuse a large piece of fabic, like Kathy A. does...remove the paper. Then to cut out a pattern piece...draw on a piece of the release paper from WU and then transfer to the fused side of the fabric by ironing the drawn side of the release paper to the fused side of the fabric. The lines transfer and you can cut out the fabric easily. This keeps you from having little threads that sometimes get loose at the edge of a piece when the paper is pulled off.

Wow - KJ - your quilts are gorgeous! Jungle convergence, African log cabin, Island sunset... They are so different and I love the colors!! Inspiration for an aspiring newbie quilter :)

No, Alleene's fusible isn't made any more. That was my all time favorite. Someone told me that Alleene died and the family chose to not continue with the business.

On the rare occasions I mark (I do a lot of freeform art quilts), this is the method I use. Works great. I also use it on WU because I don't store the WU'd pieces with the paper on them.

I took Frieda's class too and at that time she warned us about WU having a bad batch. Does anyone know if it has been corrected?..I think this clase was in 2006....already ! I haven't finished that project yet...: ) Mary

Says that the liquid fuse is formulated as an alternative to paper backed fusible web. Haven't tried it myself! Mary

I think the bad batch was at least 2+ years ago. Time flies!

I use Heat'n'Bond Lite - have for years since the Aileen's brand went off the market. I've found that after a couple of washings the stiffness goes away (or washes loose/unbonds). Just my 2 cents worth.

Great job! I love the blue drum fabric!

How did you get the print on the Bass Drum? That looks awesome!

The piece on the bass drum was stitched with my embroidery machine. That's the name of the store where this is displayed now. The fabric for the drum set is just perfect for that, isn't it? It's from the kalideoscope line by Paula Nadelstern.
