Okay, I'm confused -- what's with the trolls and what does PP mean?

PP refers to paper piecing. It is a piecing technique which is quite accurate because the sewing lines are drawn on the paper (which is later removed). I think the more technical phrase is Foundation Paper Piecing or FPP but no matter.

I will leave the other explanation to someone else. My stance on that topic is to leave it alone!

PP means paper-piecing. There are two types of paper-piecing: foundation paper piecing (FPP) and English paper piecing (EPP). PP probably refers to foundation paper piecing, as that seems to be the more common form these days.
