what does this mean

Hello everyone, I have been wondering what this word means on the Regia yarn labels. It is f=E4dig, I hope you can see the two little dots over the a. Thanks for anyone's help. Kristine in Germany

Thanks. That is what I thought but it was not on all the skeins I have and then I saw some yesterday at Karstadt, where I spent 75 Euros on yarn and such, that had a 6 in front of it. Some don't have any number in front of it. Kristine

For some mysterious reason, the Germans tend to classify their yarn by plies, like the Australians. Thus 4 ply = fingering, 8 ply = DK, 12 ply = aran and so on.
