questions about starting a knitting group

Apr 03, 2005 2 Replies

Hello everyone, I would like to start a knitting group for people in the area where I am stationed in Germany. I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this? Should I just put an ad in the local newspaper? Where is a good place to have it--the library or maybe find a club somewhere? I appreciate any advice anyone has on this matter. Thanks. Kristine

Kristine, I have no experience from this, but I know there is a German textile/craft discussion group, which I read from time to time. May be you could put a call there?

The group is: maus.kreativ.handarbeiten

Hi Kristine.

My synagogue just started one, and all they did was send out flyers and put a small ad in the monthly newsletter. An announcement in your local paper would get the ball rolling. I'm assuming you're at a military base, as you said 'stationed'. Is there a newsletter or central bulletin board somewhere you could put a small announcement? Or a place at a store where you could put up a card? Or just mention to some friends that you're trying to get a knitting group going and ask if they know anyone who would be interested. I'm sure that once word gets out you'll find a lot of fellow knitters/needleworkers.

Best of luck with this.
