entrelac knitting

I'm reading Monica Ferris' latest needle craft mystery "Embroidered Truths" in that she mentions entrelac knitting and knitting backwards. So off I go to Google Entrelac Knitting and tons of websites come up.... Where to begin??

Does anyone have any advice on the best website or book to learn Entrelac Knitting and knitting backwards? Any good patterns? I'm thinking I should start out with something flat not something in the round until I've got the technique mastered.

It's not a website, but the latest class schedule from Stitches East mentions a class on knitting backwards for doing Entrelac.

Sit opposite a mirror and watch yourself purl. Now, turn the work around and do what you just watched yourself doing...

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

Thought I'd repost this with an attention to Mirjam, in case she didn't see Betty's query. HTH, Noreen

ROTFL Casper jumped up and put his paw on the keyboard once while I was chatting with a friend and it came out like ..... asfdrf We both thought it was quite funny and said that he was trying to send a message to my friend's dog too. ;o)

Thanks for the instructions. I think my first entraelac project will be a baby blanket (no shaping required) after that I think I will take your instructions and try my hand at a hat. and then who knows maybe a sweater. I really like the look this technique produces. Maybe that's a throw back to my basket weaving days.

I did manage to find a good backward knitting website.

has great pictures so its very easy to follow. Backwards knitting felt very awkward at first and I'm sure I looked very clumsy doing it. But I reminded myself that's how folks look when I first teach them to knit and if I kept at it, it would become natural. Sure enough many stitches later I was smoothly performing a backward stitch. Sure saves time not having to turn my work around every couple of stitches. But like you said that's a matter of personal preference. Thanks again for the instructions. Betty

Wow, Betty! Between Mirjam's words and the link you found, I think you'll be entrelac-ing with the BEST of them and soon! Hugs and good luck! Noreen
