On the design wall

A bit of wisdom from Albus Dumbledore. "It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, it is our choices." It doesn't matter whether the Design Wall is a fine one or a flannel-backed tablecloth tossed over a door. Standing back and studying for a few minutes or weeks is a good, good thing. The preemie quilt of the week here began with primary color M & Ms having a party on solid black flanked by 4-patches of the primaries. Now what? I tried a lovely yellow with little baskets and flowers. Thought to add a resting place for the eyes. Wrong. Phooey. Next up. I tested a frame of wavy black and white checked Nascar flags. Yes! Those partying M & Ms didn't want a resting place; they needed a winning flag. You just never know. Anything on your design wall? Polly

Polly, that sounds like the beginning of a fun little racing quilt!

My design wall is a small piece of flannel tacked to a wall, it works fine for my needs. On it right now are about 12 paper-pieced heart blocks, waiting for about 18 more :) I'm in a 'stash-busting' mode!

Of course! It makes perfect sense, but you'd never know that unless you really looked at it and studied it through several changes. Standing back from a situation and taking a good, hard look almost always shows the truth of the thing. Makes for pretty quilts.

Hugs, Sunny (my design wall finally may be getting busy after a long dry spell)

You may remember that I actually bought 'design wall' flannel for mine. It is gridded and I really need that since I only see close up with one eye - easy to get going off downhill with the blocks if I don't have the grid. The problem with that rather pricey stuff is that it doesn't cling as well as other things do. Now that it is worn considerably, it does seem to cling better. When a block won't stay put, I just stick a pin in it. Life's too dear to let it annoy me. Polly

Design wall- I've heard of them. So far, the floor works for me.

Out of Your Stash is the one that calls to me. I see polka dots, stripes and big florals, all very happy together. No way I could use the floor as a design wall. Sandy must be friskier than I am. Couldn't get down there or (!) up. Polly

I can get down there but the up part gets trickier all the time. I like to take photos of the quilts as they go together. Helps with color and lights/darks. I can get a photo that isn't distorted on the wall but not so on the floor. Between the kitties and dogs all over the place here I couldn't use the floor anymore anyway. Not at the moment. But I'm hoping that after I get back from Paducah that I will be able to start on a wallhanging I'm calling "40 Shades of Green". Then after that I have to do something for our Guild's challenge.

Forty Shade of Green? Oh my. That sounds so lovely. If you need any help, let me know. I don't have that many but I do have a nice bin of greens. My special favorite is an ombre with lime and olive dots that's found its way into many a crib quilt. Got down to the last smidge of it Saturday and had to go green dots shopping. That was big fun. Gotta love Albus. (in fact, i'm a BIG HP fan!), although, right now i'm reading Jane Austin.

The current plan is off the design wall, pieced, and in the HQ process. Just a little baby quilt. Bears and Bunnies.

Green is not my favorite color, but I've had fun picking out various shades for this and can't wait to get it up on the design wall. I think it will be pretty.

A baby quilt is on my design wall too. I started sewing the rows together yesterday. Better get crackin' because the baby shower is Saturday!
