Once in a lifetime

So, what's on your mental list of wanting to do some day? I mean quilting wise! A Lone Star quilt is high up there for me, but I don't want to do just a star, I think I'd want to combine it with applique, I'm working on a Baltimore Album quilt by hand and realistically it's going to take me a couple of years, or more, I think if I want to do more projects with applique I'm going to have to work on machine applique. I don't have much more idea than that, I've seen some gorgeous ones, but I don't like to copy directly and I don't have much more of an idea than just not wanting to leave the spaces blank!

Just this week I acquired a book by Jinny Beyer, "Soft-Edge Piecing", I was kind of familiar with her work, but never read any of her books, experimenting with border prints is now definitely on my want to do sometime list.

So, what's on your mental list?

I want to make a quilt that's a cross between the styles of Karen Stone, Caryl Breyer Fallert, Elly S., Diane Gaudynski and Sharon Schamber. Put those all together and *that* will be My Ultimate Quilt. And, of course, it will take Best of Show in both Paducah and Houston..... and Viewer's Choice, too.

I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon..... LOL

I would like to learn how to machine quilt other than cross hatch so I could finish some queen and near queen sized quilts I've started.

I want to make a quilt that is juried into a show. I don't expect a ribbon or anything, I just want to get picked as good enough to compete. I think it's gonna take a long time -- years -- of learning the art and craft of this obsession. But I've got plenty of time and I know the way to the fabric store.

Well, this probably sounds lame but I'd really like to do a double wedding ring quilt. I already have it in my brain, what I want it to look like. it's getting kinda crowded up there, with all the quilts I want to do)....Th(at's really what I've always wanted to turn out, a really nice big one, ever since I learned to quilt.

Gently move to curved cross hatching (it looks pretty and you can use your walking foot); then a very large meandering - stippling enlarged - so that you don't have to fret about crossing lines or getting trapped in a corner! Don't start by trying to quilt like Diane Gaudynski >g< . In message , maryd writes

Being a collector of random things, I want to make a world quilt. Meaning that I want to collect a square of fabric from as many countries around the world as I possibly can. Then I want to make a Friendship Star quilt with them.

Wow I didn't realize until I really thought about it how much I want to do some day! lol

First thing I'd love to do is have my sewing room back in shape! After moving it from the dining room into a back bedroom it's a complete disaster area. Boxes, books, magazines, and fabric everywhere and no place to even set up my machine. I hope Santa brings me shelves for Christmas!

I would love to go on a quilting cruise! If it was to Alaska that would be even better!

Two quilts I definitely want to make are Storm At Sea and Mariner's Compass. Hmmmm I must have a seafaring ancestor somewhere in my family tree. lol

I would dearly love to meet Joen Wolfrom. I really enjoy her books. Her use of color just makes quilts pop!

Every time I get half way through a project I start thinking about the next thing to do. That keeps me fresh and expanding my idea base. I try to do something different and more challenging each time I do a project. Last year I got caught up in the small diagonal square syndrome for far to long a period, and my creativity suffered. I am trying to make a point of not repeating that particular scenario again. I only can work on one thing at a time, so I must applaud those of you who seem to be able to have 3-10 projects in play at any one time.

I'm 'in the process of'. My last piece was from Vietnam. haven't added to it in awhile. you'll be surprised at the different feel that some fabric has compared to our 'regular' cotton. some is very thin, some rough, some with slubs, and some very stiff. Makes you wonder how ppl can really make it into garments. I'd love to have a piece from Africa, Iceland, Lapland, and silk from China or some Asian country (Japan, Korea).

Butterfly. (have enuf to make a small WUH right now)

I was very very fortunate to have been able to go to Houston. I've been invited back this year---but I won't be upset if it doesn't work out. now my goal is to FINISH all those that are on my to-do list:) Butterfly (it's SO GOOD to *BE ABLE* to work at it in longer periods once again...with restrictions but I CAN on more days now)

I love working on the Diamonds from Linda's books. And her technique for hand piecing makes everything go so easily and smoothly. I need to get back to them and finish up what I am in the process of with the diamonds so that quilt is done.... I keep getting sidetracked.

My "mental list" is long.... so many things I want to do, and many that I just need to finish up. (More on this later... perhaps a lot later......)
