Saving New Year's Resolutions

Last year, I resolved to do something in the pineapple pattern. I didn't. I resolved to do something using a toile. I haven't. So just think of the time I've saved. Did any of you resolve to try something new and actually do it?

I'm not big on resolutions But last years was to thrive instead of just surviving We decided to continue that one. I am still continuing my quest to finish all my ufo's.... but that one is more like searching for the holy grail than a new year's resolution

I looked back at my finished projects and only one was a former UFO. And I added several.

I think this year I am resolving to allow myself to work on more than one project at a time and not feel bad about it.

I like that one, Trixie. Yes, indeed, you must toss out the 'feeling bad about it'. I love having several going at once. The pigs need appliquéing, the ducks need quilting, and there's a valentine that needs something and she'll tell me when she's decided. Polly

Oh, Polly! For a moment, I thought you'd outdone yourself... I could've sworn I read "I resolved to do something using a toilet."

Gotta make that eye dr appointment SOON.

Don't especially make resolutions but I have yours half covered Polly. I made 20 pineapple blocks this year. What are we doing with them?

I did pineapples this year. It was one of my "someday I'm going to make..." projects that I finally did. Very fun! It's on my webpage at

It's done in 5" blocks out of asian florals and indigos. I don't do the resolution thing, but I do have a list of someday things that I do eventually get around to. Someday I want to do a pickle dish pattern and someday I want to make a feathered star out of Marsha McClosky's book and so on.

Do we have to do something with them? How about putting them up on the design wall and telling them how beautiful they are? Polly

Wow! There's a 'knock you socks off' pineapple if I ever saw one. That must be why I've been wanting to try one. Polly

YES!!! I was determined to try applique - both hand and machine. I did it during the BOM...woohoooooo!!! However, i'm not sure I would do it again unless it was specifically called for in a certain project that had been promised to someone I truly love....in other words, probably never again...lol

I also have a lot of 'someday I'd like to do that" things on my list as well. I'm not really a resolution person either. I wanted to make a mariners compass ever since I saw one and the book said it was one of the more difficult patterns to do, so I have one top almost completed king sized at that and is on hold until my morning sickness and exhaustion goes away, hopefully I will get it finished in time to enter into the ontario wide show this coming May. Other patterns I did this year that were on my list were double wedding ring, lone star, which I did 3 of (one is still in progress) and dresden plate.

My list for this year consists of a twist on the baltimore album called baltimore bunnies by

I have wanted to do a Baltimore album for quite some time too but could never justify the ridiculous amount of time the handwork takes for a quilt that while beautiful in its own right is just not my style, just to say I have done it. So when I saw the bunnies I thought it would be a very cute heirloom for my 19month old daughter, and I can do it while I am fat and preggers on the couch! LOL

And of course finishing my mariners compass and maybe winning my first ribbon for it! :) Hey, one can dream!

I did pineapples this year as I took a class through the adult school with a woman who it does not matter what pattern she teaches, is it just fun to be in her classes.

Well, er, ...ummm. I just learned something about appliqué - by machine or by hand. It is just SO important what fabrics you choose for appliqué. When I was putting eyes on the duck quilt a while back, I used a very simple method. I cut out a circle, stitched close to the edges with a needle and thread and pulled the circle tightly around a dime. Then I pressed the heck out of it. When it cooled, I sneaked the dime out and the circle was perfect to attach by hand or machine. Today, I've been putting eyes on happy pink pigs. Things didn't go quite so well. The difference I've discovered is that the fabric for the pigs is just a little bit looser / coarser than the fabric scrap I used for the ducks. Be v-e-r-y fussy when you choose your appliqué fabrics. Polly

I'm very lucky - my memory is so bad that I can't remember what I resolved to do ;-)

I love pineapple patterns. They are simple and let me play with color! Did several of them over the past year.

Something new - I did a Yellow Brick Road for a friend's granddaughter. I sewed the pieces together wrong, made a mess out of it and had to re-cut and sew again. The positive thing is now I have some blocks done for my new YBR that will be for me ;)). I did pieces for the Red Lake Memorial project.

Resolutions for the coming year? I am going to make a Moon over the Mountain quilt, using used dryer sheets to back the moon and mountain pieces and making it a hopefully portable project. Going to do another Celtic piece. And finish UFOs

For my annual ritual, here is the l> Last year, I resolved to do something in the pineapple pattern. I didn't.
