New Year's Resolution (a little late)

NO NEW PROJECTS UNTIL THE OLD ONES ARE DONE!

That's it. New rule. I have about 10 UFOs and a couple more "need to do soon" projects. Just have to sit and whiddle them down, one by one. A couple are a little more portable than others, so should go quickly. No rule against buying yarn and patterns for future projects, but I just can't start anything new until the old stuff is done (like a box of cereal).

I'll see how long this lasts.

I DID finish the blue baby blanket for my BF's nephew that I started a few days before Christmas. One down, a zillion to go. (will try to get pics up later).

I think it was Mirjam who recently finished many projects. I was motivated to say No More New Yarn until I finish projects, and so far I have resisted buying.

Hi BB,

Laughing as I said it, but then just had to stop at AC Moore and that was my downfall.

Hugs,

Nora who needs to be a couple more containers to hold the yarn that I've been buying.

I did get really tempted to cast on for my nephew's Wallaby. Since his B-day is in April, I probably won't finish it in time anyway... so I picked up the green/white ripple (double stranded on 15s) that I started just about the time I moved home from college in the fall of '03. Sadder than having that blanket on needles that long? I'm using the yarn Mom bought to make a crochet version of it back in '98 or '99. It's about halfway done, then it's:

*Sew up pillow & purse that are done being knitted but slightly unfinished. *Knit stuffed dog--either a toy for a small child or an auction item for Catahoula Rescue since it's about the same color as Beau. On needles, 1/3 done. *Cream seed stitch afghan (double stranded worsted on size 11) started in January '05 for women's shelter/Project Linus. On needles, half done. *Blue and white Hot Damn baby (2-3 strands sport weight on size 13) yarn originally bought (for an afghan I later frogged) while my sister was pregnant for the nephew that will turn 3 in two weeks for women's shelter/Project Linus. On needles, need to restart b/c I CO too many stitches. *Wallaby for nephew (Bernat sweatshirt cotton blend). He'll be 4 in April, but takes a 6/7, so I'm making a size 10. Hedging my bets on size. *Black and red Hot Damn (2-3 strands worsted n size 15) for women's shelter/Project Linus *Sage and cream Hot Damn (same are red/black) for me this time *Stripey baby sweater from sock yarn (pattern from Knit Picks). Have pink and blue to make. *Little red cotton sun dress from a Zoe Mellor book (no babies to give this to, but I wanted to make it... will put away until I find a baby who needs it. Same will go for the two stripey sweaters). *Socks for my sister. *Hiking socks for me. *Any leftovers will eventually be another afghan.

AND THEN I can buy new yarn! I gave a bunch of my yarn to my sister so I could feel like my list got shorter.

I bought a rubbermaid tote today for my baseball caps (I collect them like my late grandpa did, I can't help it). I have to make sure ONLY hats go in the tote and NO YARN.

Amanda,

I think my "saddest" is a sweater I crocheted for myself while I was laid up with a broken foot in 2002. It's all done except for sewing the seams (and it's been that way since 2002).

Now that I've admitted to such a thing, I will be more motivated to finish it up :)

There is also the fisherman sweater I started for myself before the crocheted one and finished the back and half of the front. That story involves an incredibly competitive MIL and my losing my desire for it. Now I think I'd like to finish it, but I'm sure it wouldn't fit me anymore.

I love your idea because I am like everyone else and of course have too many projects on the go. I probably have at least 10 UFO's currently and want to get that list down some.

I am going to try and be very good with not starting another projet until at least one project is off the list. Now to see if that is really going to happen. I am also dealing with Lewiscraft closing and of course I keep getting more and more yarn and of course that means more ideas for projects.

Good luck in keeping your rule.

I tried this resolution out for size on New Years - no more yarn until the backlog of projects is down at least to a reasonable level. It lasted about a month and a half. I have been somewhat better though

-- I have at least not gotten myself committed to any more big projects. It is really tempting when there are great sales on yarn

--- and then there was the sales area at the Madrona Fiber Arts Fair with all that yummy stuff on display where I just had to look and pet. Oh well, so it goes.

Amanda, I have been reading all these posts and it seems everyone has lots of projects going at the same time. I am afraid I like to get one done at a time - I do not mind how much yarn or cross stitch I "think" I will do one day but I do not start it until I intend to do the lot - in fact it sometimes ends up not a relaxing thing like it should be but a workaholic until it is finished. I would feel very overwhelmed if I had a lot of things going - good luck with that resolution God Bless Gwen

My resolution every year is to use what I have, no new yarn or fiber purchases. So far so good this year. I've done a lot of spinning, used a fair bit of stash yarn before surgery last week, and haven't purchased anything new. I have done some swapping, but that doesn't count, right? *grin*

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...
