Ooops, ran out of all-purpose thread

Yeah, that's what happens when you are so busy patting yourself on the back for what's turning out to be quite a pretty patchwork quilt. So, I'm out of the "dual-purpose" 100% cotton thread which I've been using to sew the patches together on the sewing machine.

However, I have a brand new spool of "hand quilting thread. ;) Can this be used for the machine sewing portion of work? Please tell me I don't have to make a special trip to the store for a spool of machine thread.

Thanks, folks,

I'm afraid your machine, nor your quilt will like the hand quilting thread. It has a coating on it - I'm sure someone here can explain what that is, but you should not use it in your machine - it might make you take it to the sewing machine hospital, which would be much worse than going out for thread. Put your hat & coat on & go get some thread:)

Thanks, Pauline, for stating what seemed a wee bit obvious to me, despite the fact that in my fantasies, I could use any kind of thread in my machine.

Yessum, I'll go to the store now. ;)

If the label says "glazed" or something like that, best not to use it in the machine. The coating comes off sometimes and gunks up the tension disks. Buy an extra spool while you're there. (Some people have a thread collection almost as big as the fabric stash!) Roberta in D

That'd be me. ;)

I had a nice surprise this morning when shopping for thread. There's a quilt-specialty type store 20 miles north of me whose prices for everything are through the roof!

Three miles from me is a small shop which is where I went for the thread today. I immediately noticed a simply gorgeous, 200 thread count, cotton print that looks as though it was created for someone to quilt. Turns out it was, and the shop owner is a muckety-muck with some quilting organization, and she got it to take to some show in the next few weeks. I didn't get all the details, but I did discover that she's quite the expert at all-things quilting. It's probably always good to have a local genius, and I'm happy to have found one.

Y'all are my international geniuses. ;)

Thanks.
