I'm a bit sure the answer is 'yes'. It seems to me that he very purposefully stepped out of the woods for business. Doesn't look like he's in the woods to me. Polly

Replying to myself here. I meant to type "I'm *not* a bit sure . . .". Blame it on my switching gears. Instead of quilting, we are dressing dolls for the shelter. It's possible to buy dusty shop-worn dolls for a song, clean them up and make beautiful new garments. Last year we dressed the dolls in baby ensembles. This year's models are bride dolls. We've collected heaps and lots of lace, ribbon and Swiss batiste and the whole room is a dither of fluffy whites. The trick is to make something fragile looking but is actually safe for the hands of a 4 year-old ruffian. It's fun but it surely is a brain-strain. Want to come play with me? Polly

The 'question' is simply a smarty-pants answer to a stupid question or a rude one. You know, such as when somebody asks if you think it's going to rain when the sky has turned black, lightening is crackling and the wind has cranked up to 30 or 40 miles per hour. They say, "Do you think it's going to rain?" . . . and you say "Does a bear poop in the woods?". Polly (who will be happy to explain the corny Christmas joke to any who need it and the time is coming soon.)

"klh in VA" i can understand the answer

My Christmas wall hanging is on the back burner while I finish off this lot:

1 elf hat (complete) (tomorrow delivery!) 1 elf jacket (cuffs, hem and buttons to do - oh, and take in the sides! It's 'too flappy')(tomorrow delivery!) Elf/jester trousers: complete (tomorrow delivery!) 1 elf belt with large mock buckle... (tomorrow delivery!) 1 jester top (take in flappy sides, take up sleeves and hem, attach collar, sew on bells!) Jester hat (need to make 4 HUGE horns and sew on, and turn up edges. Back needs elastic... ) 7' tall stilt trousers to follow!

The alterations are because of Sunday's fitting: I've made this lot from scratch. They are not taking long to do! But I did have to unpick the cuffs of the elf jacket to take the sleeves up as the jacket it green with scarlet contrast cuff and collar!

These are for an entertainer:

Also, Miss Havisham of the traumatized roses is back for a black velvet cloak with hood (needed for party on 4th December) and hat based on a Lynne McMasters "Eliza Bennet" style pattern.

I've also got a set of cushions and a bed cover to do for my 'little' sister, and a coat to finish for Big Sis! Big Sis's is a love job, but Little Sis's cushions are a pay job as they are floor cushions to make a corner of her bedroom into a Turkish Boudoir, as she put it! All she needs is the hookah! All rich reds and golds in giant patchwork, using furnishing fabrics. I'll do pix!

I'd best get back to the sewing room! I want to finish off the alterations before putting the sewing machines to bed, and I need to do the jester stuff before I do the elf things as they need a change from red to green thread on both machines!

This is one project where THREE sergers all set up in different colours, and three machines likewise, would have been useful! But though I have two sergers and lots of machines, I don't have all the space needed... Ah, well! I'm never going to be afraid of rethreading the serger after this lot!

One of the simple bear necessities of life...

I'm cheating a lot! The Bernina does a pull-through rethread really well, so long as you take the needle threads off the lower looper. Not that retherading the sergers holds any fear for me: it justs wastes good sewing time!

Done with the red thread and the green... May need to thread up with the royal blue today... And black!

Still to do for today's delivery deadline:

Sew vecro, patch pockets, and giant buttons (they are two and a half inches across!) on the elf jacket

Make elf belt

Need to get jester hat ready for fitting MkII

May get jester top ready for collection as well. On that I have the hem to shorten by 4" and the collar and hooks & loops to sew on. I've sewn the red half of the sleeve hems, but need to do the blue halves! And it has a half blue and half red body as well. And a pile of blue and red bells on the points of the collar!

I also need to order fabric for Miss Havisham's cloak and hat. Black cotton velvet with a pure silk lining! Yummy!
