I haven't had a lot of time to do much more than quickly scan messages the past few days (although I did have to read about Polly's duckies!), but I send prayers to those who've requested them (or just plain need them), congrats to those who are celebrating, and happy dances for any ol' reason!
The reason for my scanning is that DH was admitted to the hospital Friday night after they determined he had a blood clot that had formed between his skull and his brain. He'd been experiencing some slight balance problems over the past week or so, and our physician scheduled an MRI, but his symptoms forced us to the ER before we could get that done. The clot was putting a great deal of pressure on his brain and kind of moving things around up there (his right ventricle - at least that's what I think it's called - was pushed over to the left side of his brain), and it got to the point where he could hardly stand up, let alone walk.
In the ER, they kept asking us if he had hit his head, but we couldn't come up with an answer for them. However, we were only thinking in terms of the last week and a half, which is when we had begun to notice slight changes in his balance. Finally, my sister and I looked at each other and at the same time thought about an accident last June. We'd been on a motorcycle ride, came home, and parked in the drive next to his car. As he was getting off the bike, his boot caught on the seat, and when it came loose, he did a kind of free fall backwards and hit his head on the bumper of the car. The helmet was dinged up a bit, and he did have a headache the next day, but that was about it - and that's what we think started all of this.
The wonderful news is that they did surgery Friday night about 9:30, and today, they had him up and walking. Considering that Friday morning I had to pull him up from a chair and from the bed, and that his balance was so bad that he sometimes had to run into a wall or the furniture to stop himself from falling, I think that's miraculous!
KJ, I have to tell you that I am so impressed with that big ol' hospital where your DH works! I have only been in there a time or two to visit patients, but being exposed to it from the patient side has given me a whole new perspective on it. The staff is wonderful, and even the food is good. I think DH has gotten hooked on their hamburgers!
Anyway, DH's progress is going well, but if any of you have some extra prayers for continued healing, we both will be really grateful. I've often shared with him the stories of the power of this group, and he's a believer! I'm anxious to get him home again, and I know you all have the ability to help me accomplish that. I'll be forever thankful I found this group and the kind and caring people that share their lives with us daily.
