OT: Friday Update

This has been one crazy day!!! I was at the outpatient surgery center by

7:00 am to be with my DS who had to go under the knife this morning. He has not been a happy camper all day today, but the liquid vicodin has been a godsend helping him sleep and improving his disposition. Unfortunately, he has swallowed a fair amount of blood following the surgery and it upset his stomach. When he got sick, we tried to keep aim so that I could toss everything directly into the washer, but alas we missed. He his my recliner chair that he has been sitting on to keep his head elevated and he hit the off white carpet. Found a carpet cleaner who should be here in the morning, but of course, the gal who I talked to said someone would call me before 5 to let me know what time and I never got a call. Will have to check back in the morning. Right now he is bundled under the nice clean blanket with is laptop watching THE FLINTSTONES movie. Looks like the bleeding is subsiding so I don't have to change the bandages as often and the vicodin has kicked in so he is not demanding that I shoot him quite as often.

On the Dad front. They did an ultra sound to make sure there is no blockage in his legs that is causing the swelling and then they did an ultrasound to make sure he actually has 2 kidneys. He is on one medication that is a blood thinner, so they can't do the biopsy until Monday or Tuesday. Looks like they will decide in the morning whether to keep him in the hospital until they do the biopsy or send him home and do the biopsy as an outpatient (same center where DS was today).

oh my goodness, Debbi,. seems like your holiday is gonna be a bit of a non-event after dealing with all those drs and meds. still sending lots of hugz for all and healing vibes for all. maybe, just maybe, fingers and other things crossed, Dad will be fixed up good as new asap and DS will continue to heal as he should...no more blood to contend with. oh and the carpet cleaners show up and make a good job of it.

cant wait to hear how the new sinus works on DS. i hope ya got some really fun things for his first real smells. i guess minty candy canes might be fun. thanks for keeping the daily updates for us too. hugz, j.

You poor baby! I'm assuming your son had his wisdom teeth out. My sons both went through that. Fortunately, nobody barfed. And they both refused the vicodin. I hope they get to the bottom of your dad's problems and that whatever it is can be fixed easily. So hard to watch our parents suffer illness and the indignities of old age. It sounds like he has an excellent medical team. That's a blessing.

In all the hubbub of caring for others, don't forget to care for yourself. Remember, put your own oxygen mask on first.

Hugs, and prayers, Sunny

Sunny,

DS still has the wisdom teeth. He had a deviated septum and HUGE sinuses that were corrected. The blood from the nose is dripping down the throat and we are still dealing with throwing up blood-- no more on the carpet so far, but he is having a hard time dealing with it. I gave him more pain killer so hopefully, he will sleep for several hours and let his body heal.

I feel for your son. BTDT last year in November. Not fun to go through but well worth it in the end. When and if he has to rinse, while it is rather gross, make sure he does it every hour like he is supposed to. I did and it made a huge difference in the long run. The hydration makes things feel so much better and leads to much less bleeding later on when the tubes come out and everything. Much less scabbing and drying. I'm sure he'll also have swelling for at least a month afterward but it will go down quickly. So glad I had it done and it has made a huge difference. Hope it does for your son as well. Tell him to hang in there. It will be much better really soon.

Hey Debbi,

I understand how miserable the post-op of the sinus surgery is. My dad had sinus surgery and like your son, the swallowed blood made him sick. However, it does get better and fairly quickly.

As for your dad, it sounds like his medical team is on top of it--but things move so slowly that it must be incredibly stressful. So hugs and good thoughts to all of you.

Thank you so much. DS is doing fantastically. Wish I could say the same for Dad. Luckily my brother and SIL are on the road right now to come down and help out for a few days.
