OT: It's officially the Christmas Shopping Season....

I just saw my first Chia commercial.... for a Chia Scooby Doo.

They keep coming back... year after year. Somebody must buy them!!!

What ever happened to the PET ROCK?

What holiday fad do you remember... but are happy to keep it a memory.

(or maybe even wish they would make a comeback?)

What about those terribly freaky, spooky looking Cabbage Patch dolls? I think those things looked like a female version of Chucky from the horror movies. Creepy dolls- vacant eyes- outstretched arms to grab you while they rip your throat with their teeth. EEEEEkkkkkkkkk!!!

I remember my Teri Lee doll that I thought was ugly, but most of my girlfriends had one. The clothes for that doll cost as much, or more, as mine did. That was in the late 50's. Yes, I still have it sitting on the bed in the guest bedroom along side my Cabbage Patch doll. Barbara in FL

Funny you should mention the Pet Rocks. My friend is the leader of her daughter's Brownie trip. Friday they went to a council event on Brownies Through the Ages. One of their "crafts" from the '70s was Pet Rocks. Her

In our area, the Chia Pet commercial is followed by the every-Christmas "clapper" commercial......clap on, clap off..................the clapper!!

And now there is the "Clapper Plus"..... a remote electronic/radio activator that is silent and works from outside and some distance.

Here at my little house it's officially the Christmas season when I make my first batch of caramels. Just finished #1 batch. With any luck it'll set up since it's been raining for a week. Humidity makes candy making a real challenge but I can't wait any longer for the weather to cooperate. Now these caramels are truly extraordinary! My parents asked for some for their

60th wedding anniversary gift! They passed on the 'traditional' type gifts for my homemade caramels. That should tell you something. VBG

Three cheers for your parents' 60th Leslie. Three cheers for you for taking them at their word and giving them just what they want. . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

Thank you, Alice! I didn't even know those things were still around ....

Just how dorky is it to say that my hubby REALLY wants one of those for Christmas?! Our friend has one that he bought 10 years ago and DH has been SO jealous!! :)

Hugs!! Connie :)

DH is a caramel fanatic! Would you share the recipe?

Today is baking day for our Saturday openn house. So far 6 dozen peanut butter kiss cookies, a batch of fudge and one batch of no-bake cookies that I did something wrong with -- they are icky.

Next 8 - 10 dozen sugar cookies! and another batch of chocolate fudge!!

Leslie, the rain here has stopped, and it's wonderfully dry now. Want to come here and make caramels?

I'll be waiting for ya, Cindy! I just finished the #2 chocolate batch and on to the dark brown sugar batch. So far so good- they're setting up nicely! Then on to the icky wrapping part. Of course, I have to eat all the unevenly cut pieces and little end and corner pieces. Looks like caramels for dinner tonight! LOL

I saw one of those just the other day too Kate. Beanie babies, cabbage patch dolls, Tickle me Elmo all come to mind, but they are pretty recent.

I've been seeing those for 3 weeks now.

They get bought by DHs that shop on Christmas eve when there isn't anything other than Chia Pets and bad bathing accessory gift packages, so they can either give a gift that will grow mold before the seeds sprout or a gift that basically says "you stink, please take a bath."

Saw them in stores last Christmas so they aren't due back in store again for another 30 years.

I remember when there was no such thing as a "spiral tree" or inflatable yard ornaments, and really wish that lack of those would come back in style. Debra in VA See my quilts at

I remember being the third person in line at 4:00 AM on the Sunday after Thanksgiving (waiting for the store to open at 8:00 am) the first year the Cabbage Patch Kids came out to get one for each of my little girls. Each person could only get one, so my dear Mother was the fourth person in the line, lol. Cabbage Patch Kids were very hard to get that year and the store was only going to have about twenty dolls. My little girls were so happy that year when they opened their presents. Since I just saw "25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch Kids" on the shelf at Toys R Us last week, I guess it must have been 25 years ago.

Oops, Leslie, if I had read this first, I might not have posted about my Cabbage Patch Doll adventure of 25 years ago, giggle.

I have to admit -- I bought a Clapper about 20 years ago for my nephew for Christmas, he had requested it so that he wouldn't have to get up and turn off the light and tv (must have been before remotes, lol).
