OT Need good thoughts for my Missy girl

On June 22, 2006 (the day my brother died) my beloved Missy girl (13 y.o. Golden Retriever) had a vet appointment for a lump on her upper gum. He determined she had a cancer growing there and gave her a month or two to live. It's 15+ months later and the tumor is very large- involving her muzzle, nose and upper gums- it's even pushed a couple of teeth out of her gums. It's pressing on her nasal passages and she's having to pant most of the time rather than breathe thru her nose. Since Wednesday she seems to be having more difficulty breathing. I will take her back to the vet this afternoon to see if there is some medication that will help expand or open up her air passages. She's still full of life and her sweet mischiefs and eating well and demanding her lovies and keeping the other three dogs in line. I'm so afraid I'll come home with a collar and leash and no Missy. I know we've had a long, good life together and I've known the day was coming but, still, I am so worried and my heart is starting to break.....

Oh Leslie, I can't express how sorry I am. You know, everyone, when I stayed with Leslie, the day came for doggy classes. I took Missy, while Leslie took Simon. Missy was a darling, trying to do what I said, but - because I was a useless trainer - it was often the wrong thing. A little boy classmate, after the lesson, said that Missy was OK but I was pretty rubbish! I'll never forget that glorious spring evening and the company of a remarkable and beautiful girl. She is so much more than 'just a dog'. If her time has come, God bless her for her life and love and kind and beautiful heart and the sweetest smile you've ever seen. Yes, I love her too. . Oh, Leslie! I know how afraid you must be of losing your sweet Missy. There is nothing I can say, except that I hope her quality of life will allow her to remain with you for a bit longer. {{{{{Hugs}}}}}
