OT Need positive thoughts this morning

Yesterday while unloading groceries kiri tripped and fell down the porch steps. She landed just right and crushed some of the bones in her left wrist. Made enough of a mess of it that they are not exactly sure of the full extent of the damage. She goes back to the hospital this morning for surgery. They are going to sort bits and pin it all together. While they have her under they are also going to get a better look at her left ankle, which is about the size of a large cantalope at the moment. They aren't sure whether she has done a spectacular job of spraining it, or if something is actually dislocated.

I think our DD has something like 13 pins in her wrist. It took about a year of PT to get her back to functioning 'normally' (whatever that is). We'll hold you all close in our prayers; so very sorry. Polly

Sympathy and good wishes from 'over here'; a friend of mine is just recovering after something very similar. It does take a while, so tell her to try to be patient. . In message , NightMist writes

As one who has had "cantaloupe ankle" in the past, I feel a tremendous need to say OOOOWWWWIIEE!

Mine was a spectacular sprain and took 3 months to heal enough to walk without a cast. Debra in VA See my quilts at:

Thankfully it seems that the damage to the wrist isn't as bad as it might have been. It was pretty scrambled up. Though once they got in there they found that after they got the wrist bones back where they belong the only broken bit was the end of the radius, which was indeed crushed, but not so bad as the floating wrist bones made it look on the x-ray. The ankle is sprained, which is good and bad. They didn't have to put anything back together, but she has some nasty "soft" bruising that is going to make recovery a tedious process. The only complication was she reacted much more strongly to the anesthesia than they expected, so they kept her overnight.

I've got to say the thing they put on her arm is scary looking! Not a hard brace, nor a gel cast, nor anything else I have ever seen before. It has a joint, and looks sort of like "Hellraiser" meets Legoland. It is kind of nailed to her arm. eek!
