When I tore the tendon off the end of my pinky finger a few years ago, they stapled it back in place and inserted wires to hold the finger straight. Kind of a mini-suspension bridge sort of arrangement. Just a gauze bandage (several layers) on top of that, the main purpose of which was to cover up the wire ends sticking out. The wires all had to be removed when the tendon healed, and that took a couple more weeks before I could really try to use the finger. But it all worked out OK! The doctor knew his stuff!
