eeeeeeeeeek!! thanks for that info. i had no idea. didnt even consider it. a mix of brown and basmati? is that hard to cook? brown takes so much longer, iirc. cheers, jeanne
not longer, really, just a quarter cup more water per cup of rice.
Oh, if you're only planning to be that restrictive for a week or two, go for it! can't do a lot of harm in that time, and if it kick starts the loss...
If you want any help, encouragement, recipes, etc. just yell. And remember; take one meal then one day at a time. Falling off the wagon for one meal does NOT mean you have failed! Just get up and start again tomorrow. And if you crave cake to the point of insanity, go out to Starbuckets or somewhere, have a nice skinny latte and share a slice of cake with the hubby. Then you get the treat but the rest of the cake isn't around to haunt you!
Damn! James is eating buttered toast for breakfast! Now THAT'S temptation for me - far more than cake!
me whine? nope not me :-) except maybe that ex still hasn't learnt to keep his comments on my almost clean house to himself - he's the minimalist stuff & sterile house kind of person. he will never change
So what's the basmati like? Debra in VA See my quilts at
wow, how to describe basmati rice....i've no idea. i like it tho. dh got some jasmine the other day after i told him bout this convo. we had it with vege stew so really couldnt taste it enough to distinguish it from usual basmati. i guess you gotta try it to know how it tastes and if you like it or not. not much help, eh, sorry. on the back of jasmine package, it shows what to use the various types of rice for what dishes, for basmati it said for indian and/or curry dishes. we eat a lot of curry with leftover meat and vege here so i guess thats why we have it most of the time. heres a link to the company site. nayy.
I disagree - I use basmati for *everything* I need rice for I prefer the taste :-D
Exactly, rice is rice is rice.....at least as far as it goes with meal planning. Basmati is the best white rice, nutritionally. I'd use it in any recipe that calls for white rice. I am nearly out of jasmine (i'd bought a HUUUUGE bag of it), so now will switch over permanently.
