OT--new food regime....oatmeal and tea

If you're going to avoid meat, you'll need to be extra vigilant about getting sufficient protein from vegetable sources, or other non-meat items. You might want to check out some vegetarian websites to get some good ideas for this. If you skimp on your protein, you're not going to feel so good!

Have you tried Jasmine Rice? It has a delicate flavor as opposed to the regular white rice which tastes like nothing at all. Debra in VA See my quilts at

I know exactly what you mean. My mom cooked it to death too. Runny over cooked oatmeal has always been just gruesome gruel to me. DH cooks it totally differently and I love it. Debra in VA See my quilts at

My own diet consisted of getting a job with longer hours and lots more movement than a desk job. I lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks without changing any of my eating habits. Slow but steady. This is good.

Next comes the bad. Due to my job I have caught some retched illness that causes dizziness and I've dropped 8 pounds in a week because I just can't stand to eat. I don't want to look at or even smell food. What little I have eaten I've had to force myself. I'm very tired of being dizzy all the time, and I really don't like the 5 days of lost pay from not working, but I can say it does take weight off really fast. I'll take the weight loss any way I can get it though, and I'm nearly 20 pounds down. Note: I'm not advocating this as a diet plan, just sharing my current experience. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Maria, you may also be experiencing a little muscle building period too. Think of fat lost, but muscle slowly building up so the weight balances out. That is why sometimes you lose inches even though your weight stays the same. The really good part about that is that muscle burns energy, and fat is just stored energy, so now you have a little more muscle to burn fat rather than store it up. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Jasmine rice has a higher glucose index which causes big spikes in blood sugar. Not the best choice for dieting. We've switched to a mix of Basmati and brown rice and it takes less to fill me up, and i don't have the blood sugar crashes afterward.

thanks Kate, have looked online, still looking. this is not new to me. we've used olive oil for yrs. i've been using a bread spread substitute here for about a yr now that is supposed to actively lower my cholesterol. not had it checked since then so i hope it works. also only used the low low fat, high protein, high calcium milk here. dh got me some WW jam and cheese yesterday. i've put them away til i get thru the first couple of weeks on my own minimal regime. i'll get there just gotta do it my way. i am pretty aware of what is good and not good for me so i should be ok. i also know i need certain things to make this work. thanks for the support. foggy cheers in auckland, jeanne

i love vegetables. i'm one of those who finish the vege on my plate and if i leave anything its meat. right now we're mostly eating chicken or fish or no-meat meals. ds is vegetarian so some nights we go without any meat cuz its easier to make one dish that works for him too. you're doing well with the heat then. its too cold here to live on cold food now. maybe in summer i'll try it tho. as soon as it warms up here today i'm gonna try those exercises too. lower body is what i need the most. argh. its puter bum big time here, lol. cheers, jeanne
