OT: NYC hotel accom

G'day knowledgeable folk, DH and I are visiting NYC in October for a week and want to stay in a small apartment hotel. I have found one I really like. Just want to check if the neighbourhood is ok. It seems close to everything with a great supermarket opposite. It's address is 11 Upper Westside at 75th St. Any clues?

I pondered your question, Bronnie, while I made a salad and cleaned the kitchen. Wondered whom you could ask that would give you a reliable answer. You certainly don't want to stay in an area where they're going to steal the doors off your apartment and spray paint your car with amateur Picasso. You may be at the mercy of the agency that rents the apartment although you could check the agency's reputation with someone. Perhaps the Better Business Bureau or the Chamber of Commerce? We 'almost' rented a place one time that, upon a hard look, advertised that 'private' baths were available. We moved on. Polly

Bronnie -- post your question over at RCTN. There are several ladies over there -- mostly lurkers -- who live either in The City or very nearby. If you have never posted there -- just mention my name in the RE: line so they know you aren't a spammer. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Upper Westside is a neighborhood, not an address. If it's on Columbus Avenue or Broadway, it's very nice. Amsterdam Avenue, maybe a little less so and Eleventh Avenue I wouldn't venture, although it has probably been gentrified since I lived in NYC.

OK -- Bronnie, I copied your post and added it to my post over at RCTN telling folks that you might be posting and to be nice to you :-). They can get a bit testy over there, especially if they think you are a spammer! Hopefully you will get some responses. Good Luck & CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Hi Bronnie,

I posted your question on another newsgroup I frequent--ASD (alt.support.diabetes) because there are several people on it who live in NYC. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Hi girls, I got the address wrong in my first post - it is Upper Westside (district) on Broadway at 75th. The blurb says the following: In one of New York=B9s most desirable and fashionable neighbourhoods, with its tree lined streets and landmark buildings right on Broadway, close to the Hudson River to the west, Central Park to the east, yet so convenient, with easy access to most of the city and the subway is just down the street. There's a major performance theatre as part of the building, Off- Broadway stages 3 blocks north, and the gourmet extravaganzas of FAIRWAY and CITARELLA right across the street; ZABAR'S, 5 blocks north. I am pretty certain now that it will be an ok area.

Seems to have some good feedback, if you believe 'em.

Looks like you'll have to supply your own quilt, tho'. ;-)

Good luck!

You're welcome, Bronnie. Just wanted to be sure you had a private bath - unless your inclinations are another route. Polly

Hi Bronnie,

Apparently you've verified through other sources. My New York City gal from the diabetic newsgroup confirmed what you've concluded:

Sounds like a fun trip!

Best regards, Michelle in NV

Hi Bronnie,

Do you have the name of the hotel? It sounds like an interesting location. And I can't find the address you mention in Mapquest.....

I'm interested for a future trip to NYC :) On previous trips we stayed at an apartment hotel closer to Times Square that we liked a lot (Radio City Apartments if anyone is interested) but it might be nice to stay in another part of the city for a change.

TIA Allison
