Wow. This really gives me pause. Not about headaches, but about generally the potential that radio waves in the air can have on all creatures besides humans. I have noticed, always, that my cows graze on a north-south axis. Always. Until they wander down underneath the large electric lines that run across the pasture. Then they all will face different directions.
But here's the most disturbing thing I've noticed. My honey bees are all wacked out this year. They produced well through the spring but suddenly just stopped coming out of the hive. We opened the hives and they are eating their stored honey. They are no longer coming out of the hives to forage. (Even now, when some of the best flora is in bloom). They will now have to be fed sugar water all through the winter or they will starve. We thought one hive might need to be re-queened. But that could not be the case with every hive at the same time.
It's like they don't know they're supposed to be out foraging and preparing for winter.
We haven't had wireless internet for very long. We also got DirectTV installed not too long ago. I can't help wondering if radio waves are affecting them. I just don't know what else it could be. They have plenty to eat, the hives are healthy, and we have checked for mites.
Now, I'm thinking that if radio waves are powerful enough to affect some humans with migraines, they surely can affect the critters.
Sorry for the ot rant. It's something that's been on my mind a lot. We should have tons of honey to harvest, but there's not even going to be enough to get the bees through the winter.

Very interesting, Sherry. We must always be very suspicious of the explanations DH loves to give. When I asked him why cows always seemed to face the same direction, he gave me some junk about there being a 'head' cow and everybody followed her lead. Polly

When we were in Switzerland recently, there really are 'head' cows that all the other cows follow. They are the ones with the bells around their necks. Sometimes there is more than one 'head' cow in the herd, however.
BTW, if you ever get friendly w/Vista, I'd love to have your link for the daily Dr. Gott columns. I love his columns and I don't get a local hard-copy newspaper any longer. The only on-line links I've been able to find are historical ones and few and far between at that.

Vista and I are not friends this morning but I'll try. I think this is close to right:

Thanks, I'll try those suggestions. Does this mean you do a search on a daily basis? Or your link automatically takes you to that days' columns?

Hi Polly,
The only thing that's been helpful for me is Maxalt (which can still take a day or two) along with the right kind of myofascial massage (which has nothing to do with the face or facial - different root). OTOH, I know many migraine patients for whom Maxalt may as well be a sugar pill.
Another thing I've learned from my "adventures in medicine" (make that "ordeals") is that with both Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (any of them) and migraines, any particular therapy/drug regimen is only beneficial/ effective for about 10% of patients, which is one reason that there ARE so many drugs available for treating these things. It can often take YEARS to find the right combination of doctor and therapy to find something that works (even partially), and there are still no guarantees - there's still a percentage of patients for whom there are no answers/relief.
But what you did find may help someone out there - or someone someone knows, so the thought/effort is always worth it and appreciated.

migraines and was so much
Hi Sherry,
Maybe those things on the cows' heads aren't horns, but antennae(?)
8^DCould be your cows are watching you and just messing with your head, too... (Hey, girls, every time the humans look, let's all face N/S!)
There's "bee"n (sorry) something going on with bees worldwide for the past few years, but you probably know about that. I think it has to do with their unexpectedly abandoning hives, BTICBW. Something to check into in case there's a relation, anyway.
There are many studies (all discredited by utilities of course) about the effects of HV power lines on nature (allegedly deer won't cross them) but you didn't mention if the lines in question are the really high voltage ones...
Getting direct TV shouldn't have any different effect than before you got it, as the signal only comes in - doesn't go out, and the signals were there before you got it. I don't know about wireless internet.
You know all the studies that they talk about, about how RF radiation and power lines and all don't affect bees? All of those were targeted studies. They dealt with various frequencies and strengths, all taken singlely. So far I haven't found anything talking about the cumulative effects. So you have cell towers, and TV, and radio, and wireless computers, and power lines, and lord only knows what else. One at a time they should not be any trouble, but what if all together they are a problem?
NightMist comfortably walk>Hi Sherry,
At this point, I must mention the word "bellwether" (also, there is a fantastic novel by Connie Willis by the same name), see here:
its their feng shui (sp?) to face a certain way. j.

Well, he's right about that, too. Kathryn is our herd boss; she is a morbidly obese Brangus with a total disregard for authority and fences. The girls all have individual personalities, but she is definitely the ringleader.

Oh, yeah. They mess with my head all the time. Right now they're staring in the den windows watching me watching TV. They know I'll eventually either shut the blinds or throw feed over the fence.
Thanks for the satellite TV info. -- I really didn't know that. I really think the hives need to be re-queened. You can go in the hive, kill the existing queen and put a new one in, and they usually shape up. Usually it's just a single hive, though.
Sherry
I know nothing about bees. I really hope that's all it is, because I DO know how important they are to the whole planet.
