OT post- Picking your brains re- nail polish

I have several bottles of fingernail polish that I love, but the polish is getting thicker with time. Can I dilute it with nail polish remover and thin it down or will that make it disappear... as in 'removed'? VBG Or is there another way to thin it down so I can keep using it? It's getting so thick that it almost brushes on in a clump.

I've done that before Leslie and actually it's more trouble than it's worth. Doesn't really hold up well.

Leslie,

You need nail polish thinner, not remover. A good store for cosmetics should have it, or you can order online.

how long have you had them? I mean, if it's pretty new such that it really shouldn't have gone thick, it's worth stropping at the manager in the store where you bought it. On the other hand if it's really old then it's unlikely to work and not worth the time or the shaking. If it's somewhere in the middle and you really love it and you can't buy it any more then give it a try, but honestly, I think I'd just buy new polish. I've found that it's the brands that are supposed to be one coat, or something else fancy that seem to go thick, regular nail polish, as long as you be sure to put the top on tight and shake it each time seems to last a fair time, the polish I wore on my wedding day almost 6 years ago is still very useable, it's a good brand, OPI, they use it in salons, but it's not an expensive polish.

For future bottles of polish, keep them in a little container in the fridge from new - true - I have bottles several years old that stay thin and usable. Now, I wonder who gave me that tip???

Yes, get nail polish thinner. I picked up my last bottle at Walgreen's. Polish Remover can make the enamel separate or clump and it keeps it from setting up on your nails. Start out adding only a few drops at a time or you can end up with a glaze instead of a paint. The other thing I do is drop a few BBs or glass, NOT plastic, little beads in the bottle of polish. It will help mix it up much easier. Some nail polish comes with a BB or two already in it but if it's glumped up and thick you might just want a little more agitation when you shake it with the thinner.

Leslie, there is a nail enamel thinner. Sally Hansen used to have one, I bought it at Walgreens. Now I have a big bottle of thinner I bought at Sally's Beauty Supply. The stuff is great when you can't find another bottle of your favorite.
