They don't HAVE to be read in order.....but I'd still suggest it anyway. There are some references to previous incidents that would be more interesting if you read them in order. But I do think that if you stumble upon one out of order that you would still enjoy it. They just don't come out fast enough!!!

I think there's more than one series of sorts out now but if you're talking about the group that begins 'One for the Money' and then two for the whatever etc., oh my yes. You will enjoy them so much more if you read them in sequence. Failing that, at least do try to read the 'One for' first. After that, I don't think anybody will die or that you will suffer any emotional trauma if you don't exactly follow the order. Enjoy them one more time for me. My favorite character has to be the grandmother. Polly

I agree, Kathyl- we need a new one about once a month... Wouldn't that be great? :-) I usually finish a Plum book in one sitting. I can't put it down once I start! And reading them in order is good but not necessary. It makes you appreciate the characters more if read in order as you understand the relationships to each other and know the character's background. But, ya know, I have been reading some of Evanovitch's other books and I am a bit disappointed in them. There's some funny parts, but it seems like she's trying too hard to be funny. They are stilted and slow moving compared to the Plum series. I wonder why that is? Has anybody else felt that way about the other books???

I just 'discovered' Joseph Wambaugh books. I'm liking them very much!

Polly, I think that grandmother was created with you as the inspiration! LOL

Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.- where we lust after Joe.... and Ranger ain't half bad, either!

I've tried a couple of her other series and I don't think I even finished the books. I couldn't get into the characters. I started reading and collecting the Plum books as paperbacks, but as I got caught up I had to buy the hardbacks because I couldn't wait for the paperback version. It really messes up the symmetry of the bookshelf! I agree with you that it's ideal to read them in order, but if not, then certainly starting with "One for the Money" would be best. Hummmm wonder when we get a new one? And how long can she dance Stephanie around those hunky men without commiting to one of them?

Leslie, if you are talking about the books I think you are, they are early books. They were done fast and when SP was a much younger person. It shows but they are still enjoyable for what they are.

There are also a batch out that are co-written with someone else that are good.

Nope. I don't like the ones she co-wrote with the other author, either. I'm having to work at finishing them- simply cuz I am running out of reading material. Even the used paperback book store can't keep up with me. Right now I'm reading the series with the race car driver and the mechanically inclined gal- can't think of either's name.... which shows how little I am absorbing from the books. :-/

Bulletin from your friendly quilting librarian- Stephanie Plum number

14 lands in June. That is usually when the new ones come out. In the meantime, we got the new Jennifer Chiaverini yesterday, "The Winding Way Quilt". Also funny, but in a very different way from Stephanie Plum are the Miss Julia books by Ann Ross, and we got the latest one of those yesterday as well. Can remember the title, it is late.

Yee Haw! June! oh....june....that's a ways off. That's ok...I just started the Ken Follet book "Pillars of the Earth"...it's over 900 pages....I'll probably still be reading it when the 14th book comes out in paperback! I have a couple of the Chiaverini books but they haven't clicked with me. I haven't heard of the Ann Ross books. Thanks for the head's up!

Yes. They'r worth it. Funny, quick enjoyable reads.

the Chiviarini books are really good, but like most series, they really should be read in order. Just like Harry Potter. they dont really make sense unless you've read the previous ones.

Leslie, I could easily have written exactly the same things as you. Polly *is* Grandma Mazur, and I wouldn't push either Joe or Ranger away. ;)

No, you're right, of course -- but I was thinking more of the personality and the feistiness.

Kathyl: If you go for the Ann Ross books, try to start with the first one .... I

*think* the title is "Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind!" .... that one 'sets' the stage for the series. I like to read such books in sequence. You can usually get older books in your library or through the interlibrary loan system in your area. I love libraries!

Right now I am reading Sue Grafton's T is for T ........ ACK! I can't remember, but it is another good Kinsey Milhone book.

Thanks Pat. I'll check around for it....well, after my current book is finished, that is.

Sue Grafton started with 'A' in that series, and has been going through the alphabet. I was sent that one to see if I thought I'd like the series. I wasn't too keen, for reasons I won't trouble you with, as they were very 'me' rather than the rest of the world >g< . In message , KJ writes

T is for Trespass. Thanks for mentioning the first Miss Julia title for me. I couldn't remember the other night. Also, thanks for the plug for libraries, they need all the good press they can get.

Same with the Sandra Dallas books......there are references in each book to previous books and characters. Time to reread them again, I think!
