OT - SCHOOL'S OOOOOUTTTTTT !!!!!!!!

Thank goodness!

This was one of the wackiest teaching years I've ever had. I was only there for one year - high school math. They put every freshman in Algebra, fail

50-60% of them, then say they will not change the way they teach math. And this has been going on for 5-6 years. There are a few upset parents, but they have no political clout in this neighborhood.

I'm transferring to an elementary school that is year-round multi-track. So my summer might be short. I could be starting school as early as July 9. I'll be driving about 12 miles instead of 2 miles, but I expect to have more fun and enjoy teaching again.

Last time I taught elementary school, I had the class make comfort quilts for other children who had lost parents in 9*11. Maybe I can have my new class somehow work with quilts.

I'll be a much happier camper. And quilting has definitely been my therapy this year.

Kay, I'm glad you'll be in a place where you'll be happier. Teaching where you aren't happy is torture. I hope someone figures out that

50-60% failure rate is an indication that something may be wrong.

I have literature and math that involves quilting that I use with elementary school kids. Scholastic puts out a cute multiplication practice book that has quilt blocks in it too.

Our school still has 2 weeks and 2 days!

Oooh, I think I have those Scholastic books stashed away somewhere. I did teach 5th grade for three years in this district when I first got here in

2001. But it has been three years since I did that. I tried to organize all my 5th grade "stuff" in the event that I needed it again. I think I need to re-introduce myself to the contents of those boxes -- some sit by the living room window and the cat sits there to lookout.

Thanks for the reminder! (I think this is going to be more fun than middle school and high school were.)
