OT: [Sigh] another fire

Last Saturday in the back country of our neighboring county, a fire started. It is so inaccessible, they have to fight it with water drops and sending in hotshot fire crews from a long way off. It is burning

80 year old brush, and is simply overwhelming. If you know our state, it is about 26 miles east of Santa Maria, between Highway 101 and Highway 5. There is a small town called Cuyama out there. They have called for mandatory evacuations of 14 livestock ranches. It has burned close to 15000 acres right now and has very little containment. So, Sandy in NV, was your skies - they say Las Vegas area is getting smoke from that distant fire.

Air quality here is compromised, my throat is burning pretty bad this morning.

They are still searching for a cause. Ginger in CA

Oh rats Ginger. I haven't been paying too much attention to local news the last few days. I hope they are able to get a handle onthe fire soon. It has been reasonable cool here this year comparably speaking. That is at least helpful. Is the supertanker there? We can watch it come and go when it is heading south but not your way. Stay inside and take it easy. The whole fire thing is so very unnerving. Hugs, Taria

Ginger, I'm only just seeing this, due to a scare with Bisou that required her to stay at the vet's overnight and me to pace the floor worrying. :S

I don't see any smoke in our skies, but I will say that the blue we usually have is not quite as bright as usual -- that could be a result of the smoke, I think. I hope they get this monster under control soon and that no one is hurt!

It sure is a scary time when fires start raging. I hope it is soon under control.

Our forecasters are predicting another very hot and dry summer here in Victoria Aust - and that we should be prepared for more fires like those we had in February. God forbid it.

I, too, wondered about the smoke, Ginger. However, I KNEW from previous experience, that somewhere in California someone was having a very bad day. So sorry.

Best regards, Michelle in Nevada

This fire has burned about 30+ square miles now. It's hard to believe, isn't it?

The air quality is wierd. We have foggy stuff along the coast, but the smoke is also there, so it just lays over you. Burning throat and headaches.

This morning's news tells me the fire is 56+ square miles big. Just cannot even wrap my mind around something that size! No, no A/C here at home, basically wouldn't use it if I had it. We notice in the buildings at work they have the courtrooms ventilated pretty good, but the hallways and other offices leave a lot to be desired.
