OT spring sighting

For all you folks in really cold country I wanted to let you know spring really is just around the corner. Today, out of the long neglected perennial garden popped a daffodil. What a beautiful thing. Kind of early and confused along with one of the plum trees that is starting to bloom but it sure was a sight for these sore eyes! Can't wait to be complaining about the hot weather! The bad news is my back is killing me from working in the yard! Taria

My uncle-in-law brought over a Dutch Iris five days ago, the first of the season!

The apricot tree has lots of blooms, the macadamia nut tree has loads of tassled blooms, the avocado tree is looking like it may decide to bear product after being barren last year.

It was 78 degrees at noon, then fell to 50 by dinner. No wonder the trees and plants are confused!

Ohhh..... as brutal as yard work is, it's gratifying, isn't it? I love those "early" starting flowers - I spotted two renegade crocus blooming waaaaaay back in my back yard today. Isn't spring just 20 days away or something? Not long - YAY!

We have sighted crocus and daffodils this weekend as well. It's finally starting to warm up, and I'm SOOO excited. I'll be able to sew and be on the computer without my hands being so cold that it aggravates the arthritis!!

Oh yeah, and don't forget to set your clocks forward this coming Saturday night or you'll be late to everything. Obviously, this doesn't affect states or regions in the US that don't participate in Daylight Savings....

Ah! Good to know you are doing yours this coming weekend. Our changeover isn't for a couple more weeks. So we will be out of synch. for a while. It's handy to be aware of the time difference between us. Thanks Jenn. . In message , Jenn/Jalynne writes

Daffodils out here, but crocus almost finished as are the little irises. Seems a good year for hellebores. If you look at the trees there are leaf buds all formed. The cotoneasters at the bottom of the garden that are usually stripped of berries in December are still full - obviously the birds have had an easy winter.

I couldn't think what the red was in the corner of the garden, but it was the small tulips I'd planted in a plastic pot ready to just slot into the stone pot at the front, so the half dead pansy pot has been removed, and we have tulips. So Spring has come to my front door!

Many of my daffy-dills are up and my hyacinth have peaked above the surface and are starting to open their lovely purple eyes :-). Spring is nice -- the only problem is that it means summer is just around the corner and I *really* don't like summer any more! That's what 35 years of living in Lizard Land will do to you -- LOLOL! I'm off in a few minutes to go plant some Johnny-Jump-Ups (what's the difference between them and Preacher in the Pulpit?) in the four flower boxes along my front walkway. I do so love flowers and trees and such but I really hate to garden! Since DH won't touch a flower as far as care goes, it's up to me to do that sort of gardening. VBS, to make matters worse for me, just about everything I do plant grows like mad and ends up looking lovely. I just HATE to put it in the ground and then have to take care of it -- LOLOL! I wonder what type of gardener that makes me??? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

When I was at my Orchid group meeting last week I took a photo of the ROSES that were blooming outside.

My garden doesn't know whether it's coming or going. I've got geraniums out and most of my daffodils have already gone over.

I second Tammy! We're not quite as far north as Ontario, but tomorrow is supposed to have the lowest-high temp of the season (add - er, subtract, degrees for wind chill, and it's going to be verrrrrrry chilllllly!) On the other hand, when y'all are complaining about the heat this summah, we'll be enjoying 75* and lovin' it! So, I guess there's justice, after all!

Will have to spend my time finishing up a PP-WUH 'cuz it'll be too cold to go out. Besides, our garden is still buried beneath snow and ice! ME-Judy

Ours has changed this year, so we're to have three extra weeks of DST. Of course, the powers that be couldn't possibly have seen fit to coordinate at least the beginning or the ending date with one of those dates in Europe, so we'll be out of sync for even longer than we used to be.

Heehee! My daffodils are still under about 4 feet of snow.

And hey! It's a school snow day today. Not because we had huge snowfall yesterday though we are under a snow and blowing snow warning, but because it is _cold_. It got up to 0 F thermometerwise, but the windchill has been bouncing around between

-10 and -20. Since a lot of kids walk more than a mile to get to school, and the public transpo locally might as well be nonexistant, it was a good decision for a change.
