Yes! This is what I have done for the past two years. Buy two frozen Honeysuckle turkey breast portions at Sam's Club and then get turkey thighs in packages at Wegman's. So much easier and faster and neater. And there is dark meat for some of us and plenty of white meat for dinner time and later (sandwiches - yum!)

Iris (who, having lost 45 lbs this past year, must be careful not to gain it all back this weekend!)

I get off very easily these days, since the DDs host the holiday feasts now. However, DH loves turkey, so he smokes (yum!) a turkey for us. The carcass may not look pretty, but it does make wonderful soup -- just let it cook in the crockpot for about 24 hours (seriously!), and it comes out a rich brown with lots of flavor, perfect for a chilly day. :)

Congratulation on losing 45 pounds this past year. I was watching my weight and lost 40 pounds. Hooray for us!!!! Hope I can lose another 40 this next year! Barbara in FL

Yes, I need to lose at least another 40. However, my doctor told me to back off a little for a few months and stay within 3 or 4 pounds of current weight til my body "catches up." ??? I was surprised to say the least (the doctor is 120 lbs. soaking wet, refers to himself jokingly as "that skinny b----rd" and is very big on losing weight), but it does take the heat off for the holiday season. I'm still losing slowly though - wouldn't it be a hoot if I went back for my January appointment and had lost "too much" weight?

Iris (believe me "that" would be a first!)

The inquiring mind would like to know, what is that "feel good law"?

I'm doing it on my own, and my DH is doing it along with me, which helps. We started last April, for no particular reason. One day I was sick of being fat (5'8" and 245 lbs.) so I came home from the grocery store and started portioning food into smaller sizes. We just count calories - that's it. Oh, and exercise once in a while, not as often as we should probably. Especially me! It's worked out that we're eating more healthy, I think. We eat quite a bit less meat, just chicken or turkey once in a while. The veggie burgers have gotten better since I had them years ago. A veggie burger on a toasted English muffin is pretty good, and not high in calories. I never read food labels before, but now I read them obsessively, and so does DH. I have to say that I never expected the new eating plan (we don't call it a diet) to go so well, and neither did DH. He lost a similar amount of weight, and at 6'1" and 197 lbs., he's a lot closer to goal than I am. Not that I really know what goal is. But it's nice to buy and sew smaller clothes for a change.

And every evening we have a 60 calorie Jello chocolate pudding with a dollop of Reddi-Whip. We find it cuts down on the sweets cravings.

It was prop 2 in the Nov. 4 election here in CA. It was to improve treatment in farm animals. The idea good in theory but there will be ways around it and costs will go up. I doubt chickens will be feeling better about the whole thing in the end. (other animals are included but poultry is going to be hit hard) TAria

My mom used to grease the inside of the bag before putting the turkey in ..that might be what as needed? Mary..

Last year I had the bird cooked and out of the oven for an hour and it was still too hot to carve! ...This year it willbe done 1 1/2 hours before carving time !! One of the best ways to carve is to let it cool quite a bit...slice right next to the breast bone...close to it and right down....lift that big hunk of breast meat out ...and slice that...do the same on the other side, of course.

This is my favorite way to have turkey :...... A friend mentioned a few years ago that her mother would slice the turkey up ... dip it in the juices that had run out of it...NOT the grease....put it on a platter.... cover....and heat up at dinner time...This way she could cook it the day before. I've done this also,,,found out that my sil learned that trick as well....it makes for a very moist turkey...esp. if you have to bring it somewhere, work outside the home, or for what ever need you have. I do this when I roast some of those 7 lb birds...but kind of hard to do when family expects to see and smell and experience a roasting turkey !!! I just pour a bit of the juices over the turkey on the platter instead of dipping into the juices/broth when I do get a chance to do it this way. In fact, if it is prepared this way the day before the turkey has had a chance to really absorb the juices/broth quite nicely. Mary.

We'll just hold that Ortho in the freezer until hunting season is over. The Swamp is simply crawling with happy gun-toting guys. The gators are fined every year for exceeding the 'bag limit'. Polly

Oh my, Dream, my dear. So sorry you're in a struggle. I might as well mention the rest of it. Some of the folks down our trails have very pricey cows. Cattle? Whatever. Anyhow, on the way to the grocery, I noticed quite a few of the cows sporting fluorescent orange neck scarves; one even had a spikey orange hair style. Our little Yorkie knows to come in low and keep his head down. Polly

Got a positive way for you to have a Good Day.: Just picture that Ortho running away from the Gators. ((IF this was a Mayo Dr, they DO have a Department that handles complaints on any and every Employee; from the Janitor to the CEO. They even will send you a letter stating the matter was being investigated. So do NOT be afraid to let them know if you aren't happy. Like one Dr told me "This is Mayo..they expect the best. They'll only know of the shortcomings if you tell them"))

Butterfly (Now, picture those Gators getting their running shoes on)
