OT - University Challenge!

For those who don't know, it's a television program where teams from different Universities compete in general knowledge questions. Generally, Cambridge and St. Andrews seem to feature quite frequently, so the good folks at the Dundee University Students' Association contacted Granada studios and expressed an interest in forming a Dundee team.

That is where I come in. I went along to a quiz night tonight and impressed them with the cesspool of useless information that swims about in my head. There were no questions about Scots law or American history, so it was all trivia that I've picked up over the years.

There will be another quiz night on Friday, then in a week's time or so the final team of 4 will be selected. Fingers crossed they'll pick me! It will mean flying down to London in May or June (after exams!) so that would be fun, since I've not been to London since 1997 and loads of things have been built in that time.

Wish me luck!

goodness! WOW!! amazing!! just the chance of being able to join in sounds great to me!

Jo underplays the wealth of information these teams have when they join - they make the average MENSA member look like they have an IQ of 90 max LOL

good luck Jo!

Good Luck, Jo, my Cambridge college was the lowest scoring ever, the program was broadcast in my first term there, but like yours, was recorded sometime beforehand, so for a few years we didn't enter a team, but the TV company really wanted a team from our college and eventually someone dragged a team together, I went to watch them practice against the fellows and it was so annoying, I could get most of the "starters for ten", which the student team rarely got and one guy on the fellows team was getting consistently! The team won one round I think. After that experience, I realised I was pretty good at general knowledge and a few years later The Weakest Link came to Cambridge to do auditions for a program featuring people who did "loud" things, the audition was just a camera test, not doing questions, to my surprise I was picked and recorded a special edition, including people like a town crier, a cheerleader and so on, my husband asked me beforehand how I would feel when I was knocked out, I confidently replied that I wouldn't be! I was right! I ended up winning! Lots of people knew I had recorded it and it was on TV about 2mths later, I had to keep quiet for ages and loads of people teased me that I'd lost in the first round!

Great news Jo! Hope you make it all the way to the end. You'll have to send a copy of the episode to the U.S. & we can all pass it around to each other.
